V551 and Razr V3 -- Which has better reception?

Sandyon66

Am trying to decide between the V551 and the Razr V3 with reception being the most important factor as we are at the fringe of the nearest Cingular tower. Which one has better reception?
Thanks,
Sandy

Sandy,

I carry the V551 and my wife has the RAZR. Both have great reception, so to answer you question, one does not have more signal strength over the other.

My advice to you is to chose one and if it doesn't work oout, turn it in for the other. You can do one phone exchange within your 30 day trial period.

Can an external antenna be connected to the Razr V3? What about to the V551?

Yes you can to both however the signal difference is negligable.

Regarding the signal difference being negligable after an external antenna is connected to a RazrV3 and to a V551, do you mean that connecting an external antenna to each one only gives a negligable difference? or that after connecting an external antenna to both, the signal difference between the V3 and the V551 is negligable?

Also, what antenna did you use?

Thanks,
Sandy

Well, in theory, since the phones aren't supposed to control your signal...the towers do...all phones should get the exact same reception. However, we all know that isn't the case. That being said, I've heard the RAZR does get slightly better perception, but believe me, the v551 is actually superior to the RAZR in everything else.

Here are a couple of key points:
Edge: v551 supports, RAZR doesn't
Bluetooth: RAZR only supports the headset and handsfree profiles...v551 support quite a few more...I don't have the exact list available though.

Not true on the BT! The RAZR also supports File Push and OBEX, same thing as the v551. I thought the same thing til I queried it with my t637 to get the exact profiles it had. Both phones offer the same BT profiles.

Now whether they're out in the open and easy to use is a matter of personal opinion. I'm not a fan of Moto's BT implementation, but it's functional.

Hmm...maybe they've update the RAZR??? I remember somewhere else in these forums somebody used a T637 to query a Razr and it said handsfree and headset only....

I have the V551 and it gets great reception everywhere i've used it. It's a great choice for a phone.

Sandy,

Will is right. The differences between the two are insiginificant when it comes to signal quality or reception. Between these two choose based on personal preference because either one will do great for reception.

Now, as for their perception, I don't know how they perceive us? After all, they are just phones 🤣

technically, they shouldnt be any different really, but the V3 is rated higher in RF performance. i use one and i have not had a phone with better reception/sound quality in my opinion.
