razzy

hey everyone, i am about to get a v600 and i know that its been recalled and everything but i also herd there was an update for it not too long ago. does anyone know where these updates came from? via cingular or motorola? i herd that once the updates came the phone worked much better for cingular and tmobile.

my first moto was the v400, i loved everything about it except the battery life, so then i got the v551, loved it even more except for the battery life lol...but i hear the v600 has twice as long a battery life than the other v series phones and i've never wanted one until just recently and i am getitng one soon....

can anyone tell me about the update for the v600? and what happens when you have insurence on your cingular account...

v600 uses the same battery and has the same battery life as the v400 and the v551. i've used all 3. no difference. i would stay with the v551 instead of the v600.

really? that is odd because the talk and stand by times on motorola.com, cnet.com, and amazon.com for the v600 are all very different from that of thr v400 and v551 on the same sites....

what they list and what you get are two different things. i've sold all of those phones, then main problem is the short battery life.

yeah i do know that the info is not usually accurate, but for 3 top websites to list the battery life being different hmmm

why would anyone group battery life for the v300,400,and 551 together and the 600 if it was all close or the same?

the update to the v600 is actually a new handset. it's supposed to be the v635 and it was originally dated to be released late april/early may but so far there hasn't been any new information for it. i'd wait on it and see what the reviews are before making a purchase. it's really hit or miss with all moto products in my opinion.

and it's been my understanding that all moto V line products use the same battery so they have the same battery life. the websites list that they have different battery lifes because they don't take into account that the camera option, speakerphone option, and bluetooth option on the various handsets take up extra power.

hope that helps.

excellent thanks so much for your help
i knew all that about battery life and everything. i just had noticed that webistes listed a big differnece in battery life for that particular model the v600 vs. all the others

yeah, you'll actually see that for a lot of different companies. it's a selling point. they want to make the phone seem like it has a "brand new battery with longer life!" and technically it's true, but only if you never use the camera, or the speakerphone, or the bluetooth.

kind of sucks, but i guess that's the business.

well...if the v600's battery is longer than the v400/551 i'll be happy because i will never use bluetooth and i will almost never use the camera because i have a nice 5.0 sony that i carry with me almost as much as my cell phones...

i did not have to pay for the v600, someone is trading me it for a v551 so i am not loosing, only gaining in my opinion

Kinda makes me wonder why this other person wants to give you their v600 for your v551. 😕

I would recommend that you proceed with caution, lest you get jipped. The v600 wasn't recalled for nothing, you know. There were all kinds of quirky problems with it.

yeah, i'd definitely have to agree with that. especially since they recalled the V600 and are coming out with an updated model soon.

i'd stick with the V551 until the V635 comes out.

just my advice tho!

What exactly is it about this phone (other than aesthetics) that makes you think its so much better than the v551??? Surely not the "battery life" that you refer to. Off the top of my head, I'm not aware of anything that is that much better about the v600.

If you don't know why you want it, then this is a good sign that you shouldn't get it. Trust me - wait for the v635. You'll be much happier, plus you'll be less likely to get a lemon.

I love all this conjecture about the V600. You people have no clue what happened to the V600.

First of all, the V600 is still offered by T-Mobile. It functions just fine and they have similar return % to other Motorola handsets.

The V600 was dropped by Cingular because of two main reasons. They didn't want to wait for the new display vendor which was the fix for the handset. They preferred to not carry a handset with a known issue, even if it was only temporary. Second, the V551 was coming out shortly and was a good replacement for the price point and features compared to the V600.

Now, to let the cat out of the bag (thanks for not previously mentioning my handle razzy, class act). I am the one trading it with razzy. I am tra...

I wasn't taking guesses about it. I used to work for a Cingular agent, during which time I encountered 4 individuals with this phone. 3 of those people had units in which bluetooth either wouldn't connect to anything, or would lose its connection less than 5 minutes after connecting. I'd say thats a major issue, as would many others.

Don't act so offended. It's not like I'm insulting the owners of this phone.

Wasn't there also a problem with the phone picking up the 850mhz frequency? That's what I heard somewhere, I dont know how true this is.

Ack, had a customer today who didn't like the charger port style on a Samsung and was thinking of going to a Moto, and I'm trying to find all these really diplomatic ways of saying "Gee, if charger ports are a problem for you, then Moto is NOT your solution" without sounding like I'm throwing one of our suppliers under the bus... (Where they totally belong, IMHO!) Freaking Moto phones, half of them don't work at all and the rest look like tennis shoes... 🙄

Oh, no...if you're talking to Nextel18, it's definitely libel and slander. ANYthing you say to him. And he's a jet setting pimp...so he would know.

yeah guys...i didnt mean to start any drama lol...just trying to get as much input as possible.
another thing also is that i hate seeing lots of people with the same phone as me and sincee v551 is one of the main phones cingular is doing right now i see it everywhere and it annoys me lol...i havent really seen many people with the v600 espically not younger people.

but yeah i am happy to get the v600 for another major reason, because there are programming issues with cingulars website, the v551 can not get all the same ringtones and games and stuff as the v400 and v600 so i am happy to be able to go back to all that great stuff they offer there. the v551 was a pain in my ass lol

heh, that's great. then you should definitely switch it up! i just got my Z500 and i love it, but i really wouldn't mind switching it up to the S710. i guess it's really all about personal preference.

good luck with the new phone, i hope you enjoy it!

xoxo

p.s. sorry Tex, i didn't mean to bash your phone, just giving my own personal advice. take care!

Thank you for clearing that up. I have been in warranty for a long time, and long ago I got sick and tired of people calling in that had been told by other people (like store reps and care reps and others) that the v600 was recalled, when it was never actually recalled.
Nothing ever actually gets technically recalled except for safety issues. On the Blue side, we stopped carrying the v600 for pretty much the same reason you mentioned, except instead of the v551, it was the v505. About the closest thing to a recall in recent memory for me was the sony-ericsson t68 series, which was changed out for t226's and t616's by sony about a year ago because it wouldn't work on 850.

It's funny. I still have the Cingular News update with the issue and what solutions were available to the customer. I also have a great relationship with Motorola so I knew about the "real" reason before it was published to the distribution channels.
