Torch, Xperia, iPhone4

I'm going to be up for an upgrade in a month or so, and I can't believe how much thought I have put into what phone I will get next. I'm torn between these three smartphones, and I just cannot make up my mind, so I ask the following questions:

Xperia:
-Does this phone have Cellular Video?

-Is this phone going to be upgraded to Froyo or at least Eclair? and if so, will it support multi touch? Is multi touch something that can be added to a phone through a software upgrade? I though this was more of a hardware thing..

Torch:
-How is this phone's memory for apps. (currently own a 9000 and it sucks for apps, because it barely has any memory for them)

-How does it perform? (considering the processor of 624Mhz, is this really a...

Well, I just got the Torch and I noticed the first time I downloaded and app, that I had over 355MB remaining. that's good, because my curve was like 50MB I think. I haven't had a single problem or lag for the four days I've had it now. I thought about the Xperia, but didn't really like it like I do the Torch. I did hear it would be upgraded sometime in September to 2.1

Thanks! I like the feel of the Torch (heavy and solid) I don't like flimsy phones which is why I stay away from flip phones back in the day... This slider phone feels really good in your hand.
That's good to know. My 9000 is sorry for apps (barely any space for them) You claim to have 50MB on your curve, well, I have like 24MB

Xperia-

multitouch is a hardware thing....it will never have it.

There is no official date on upgrading to 2.1 or 2.2 all they have said it will be in the future.

I'm not sure on cellular video. I'm pretty sure every at&t phone(sans iphone) has cellular video pre-installed.

Torch-

OP touched on memory for apps.

We have sold many torch's and I've never noticed exagerated delays with the OS. There will be minimal delays every now and then but nothing that makes the phone hard to use. It seems to peform well with the hardware it has. I think a lot of the phones that have a 1ghz are overpowered anyway.

iphone 4.

reception issues are hardware related. Unless they redesign the phone they won't go away. Just slap a case o...

Thanks. I thought so... Now, I'm new to this whole touch screen thing. I thought this would be a fad, and since it seems like it's here to stay, I guess I should at least get familiar with it since I'm considering these phones. What are other uses for multi touch besides pinch to zoom? I'd like to know if I could do away without it...

it allows you to hold down the "shift" key on a virtual keyboard while typing out caps (depending on the keyboard) it's pretty muh needed for decent gaming.

Right now you might be able to get away without it, but more applications are taking advantage of it every day.

I'll agree with what Sigma said, but if you're looking at android, and you're on ATT, the Captivate (Galaxy S phone) is a better choice imo. Not only does it ship with 2.1, but Samsung has committed to at least 2.2 and ships with multitouch.

Was just going to recommend this phone. It beats the pants off of the rest of our Android line up. Definitely give this phone a look-see.

It gets ok reception. Not as good as a blackberry though. I went from a 9700 to a captivate. Overall I'm pretty happy. Definitely better than the other android options.

I know I said a lot of good things about the Torch and it is a great phone. But I have a friend who told me he'd trade me a Captivate for the Torch, so I tried it out...and wow the Captivate is awesome! Samsung has come a long long way and I'm glad I did the switch. The black berry torch is a good solid phone, but multi media wise, the samsung is more fun. Beautiful screen AND the battery is great so far. I can even type on the touch screen witout mistakes. You should check it out!
