Better phones for better prices too...and when you upgrade and extend your contract you get discounted prices for all phones on familytalk rather than just the main line.

I actually did have a customer who wanted to cancel service, telling me that I lied to him when I told him it was 1.99/minute in Ireland. He seemed to not understand that when he was receiving calls it still would charge. Also couldn't comprehend that when he called an Ireland number while in Ireland he got charged.

Yeah, you have to PAY 7.00 for it. With AT&T you never did! Its been a deal-breaker for some AT&T customers who dont want to switch to Cingular.

The reason you 'never' had to pay for it was because they added it as a promotion into your plan. They charged for 7pm nights if you didn't have the promotion. I know because when I used ATT, I wouldn't sign a new contract to get the promotion so I just paid for the feature.

I have to use three differen carriers. 1) Verizon for coverage and voice quality

2) T-Mobile for huge amount of Pre-paid minutes.

3) I use an old Nokia 5165 phone also pre-paid because it uses TDMA great for going through thicks wall and metal roofs, and it has analog back up

Gsm has a long way to catch up here in Gainesville, Fl,. zipcode 32614

By the way I did try a Cingular phone with Gsm, I cancelled service after 5 days.

Roll over minutes and having a 50 million customer base doesn't really matter, if you voice quality sounds as if it's cracking and muffled during some conversations.

No matter which carrrier you choose, go with the trial period. And never ever sign a 2 year contract. If you have to worry about t...

I think what he may be talking about is Taxes, Fees and Surcharges, everyone's best friend. Verizon, at least, that I have noticed charges upwards of 20% of your regular monthly service charges. Cingular averages at about 17-18%. Not a lot on a normal rate plan, but it adds up when you have 4-5 lines using 3000 minutes

i haven't seen anything in the last year or so, but i know that before the cingular att merger there was an article in the new york times about cell phone surcharges which showed verizon had the smallest amount of surcharges per customer in the industry.

i can't imagine they've raised their rates that much...

Well, im only talking about people who have brought me their bills, I do the math right there, and it always seems to come out to 20% or higher. It could be that the people who come to me are only that high because of overages or whatnot.

What exactly do you consider second-rate? Cingular has some of the most innovative and exclusive phones in the marketplace today.

Show me a phone out there with the capabilities of the Nokia 6620 in its price range. Or The SE 710... or a video phone with speaker, triband, customizable faces, and TFT color for under $100 like the z500a.

The Nokia 6230 is probably one of the finest phones available from ANY carrier in the US. Second Rate? Where?

10.Poor network attention- so much money spent on the network in concentrated pockets instead of improving overall nationwide

9.incompetant employees- I was an employee and you have no idea how much crap fell through the cracks, people would get away with 10 lines and not even sign one contract for any of them, which makes them "voidable"

8.incompetant customer care- they will bounce you from place to place, which is because they don't know what they're talking about. They use a system called telegence which is totally different from what salespeople use which is called OPUS (crap)

7.Most Expensive Rate Plans, So what if you get rollover, what's the use when the same price with TMOBILE will...

verizon charges a processing fee that equals an activation fee. at least cingular charges half of their activation for upgrades.

Processing fee? There is no such thing. There has never been one, an indirect agent might have charged them before but Verizon has never, I have been selling Verizon for 6 years and there are no fees, only the original activation fee at the original time you sign up.

not on an upgrade. they charge an activation fee on a new account to cover credit check, etc, but they don't charge that $18 fee that cingular does.

Uhhh thats 100 offa the RETAIL Price.... New customers get better deals... I have a tmobile account. You get the same deal as an activation customer most of the time with cingular... As far as network goes Cingulars network is waaayyyy bigger than tmo's. So much bigger in fact that tmno uses cingulars network many places

Nope, thats $100 off the new activation price, I GUARANTEE it, I have worked for Verizon for 6 years, its called New Every Two, that is why I just got the e815 for free when I renewed my personal line, the price for a new activation is $149.99 minus a $50 mail in rebate which brings it down to $99.99, I got mine for $49.99 minus the rebate = FREE

I'm not jumping all over you on this, I could really care less. I work for Cingy and I hate them with every fiber of my being, but they keep gas in my car and food in my stomach so other than on here you wont here me say that. But if you gonna rip on something at least provide one example, I'm sure you could find several. Why not argue a point like that with fact? thats just lazy man... 😉

Used to work for cingular, and one main example is their customer care. You and I both no that we don't care one bit for the person who comes into the store to inquire about their bill. If they're not in there for new service, an accessory, or a feature... then they better make room for those who do wanna get those services. Cingular really doesn't give their RSC's (retail sales consultants) any incentive to provide superior customer service. It's all about needs assesment, steering, profiling, upselling and feature recommendations. You know what is sad though... I never made any real good money with cingular. Even with commission, what was I pushing? 40K a year? Cmon, that's nothing... base salary was crap and commission required th...

t mobile gives so many minutes, but good luck getting signal. rate plans too expensive, they are right there with verizon in price. of course as a customer u are a number, same with the other carriers. if you forward your cell phone, it counts against your minutes, if you forward it to another cingular phone, each phone is charged minutes. you could get fast forward, which doesn't use minutes (to a landline)
not all billing systems use telegence, there are also care markets. you have no idea what you are talking about, you are obviously one of those "incompetent" employees you speak of.

Hmm, hey Cingular could not promise anything about the Divested markets that was up to suncom the FCC mandated that those markets be sold off. it is up to the new company to keep the plans not the company that does not own it. As for t-mobiles double the minutes for same price. it is a special deal in some markets for a limited time. it is not normal rates.

9. I'm not sure about this one - aren't taxes the same for everyone? I know here in WA they're around %22. (It is true though that Sprint got in trouble for adding charges and making them look like taxes).

8. That would depend on your needs - there are a lot of Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile customer that seem to disagree with this.

7. The main advantage of GSM is international roaming which is the same as point #3 . . .

I actually thought that Most of Verizon's Coverage was analog, as whenever they brought out maps of their digital services and rate areas it was absolutely terrible. has this improved? I know a few people who have bought digital only phones from verizon and had terrible service, then when they returned for what they called a tri-mode phone (which i thought all were tri mode with verizon) they got better service, I was assuming it was due to the analog roam.

Then I invite you, almighty verizon man, to step up to the plate and go everywhere you see red on a verizon map, and call from it. Then you tell me that verizon's map is legit. It IS a lie. People DONT get service where the map says they do. There is no 2 ways about it!

Now it is not fair to criticize verizon on "lying" about thier coverage because my mother has Cingular and she has no coverage in areas where the Cingular maps said she would have coverage. No company lies on thier maps. The maps are merely suggestions of where service might be available, and thier areas are NEVER 100% exact. If you don't believe me, bring your Cingular phone to Bedford, Indiana. Bedford is included on the Cingular map, BUT not one Cingular phone can get a signal in Bedford!! There is also geography to consider. Trees, tall buildings, hills, and mountains may stand between a tower and the cell phone which will also make the phone have no signal.

oooh so let me get this right..you say that verizon lies about its coverage area but the almighty cingular does not...ha ha ha thats a laugh...yeah they have the biggest all over voice and data coverage because they are counting the ATTWS towers that they took over at the time of the merger but as any employee knows... those towers are not yet intergrated to the CW network..there for yes they have the most towers but they dont pull service from all of them and will not untill i believe 2006 some time...but hey why would they have a reason to lie.... and as for them having the most customers that is also correct but verizon is not that far behind so they are not that far from catching up..but hey what do i know i only work for both of them

oooh so let me get this right..you say that verizon lies about its coverage area but the almighty cingular does not...ha ha ha thats a laugh...yeah they have the biggest all over voice and data coverage because they are counting the ATTWS towers that they took over at the time of the merger but as any employee knows... those towers are not yet intergrated to the CW network..there for yes they have the most towers but they dont pull service from all of them and will not untill i believe 2006 some time...but hey why would they have a reason to lie.... and as for them having the most customers that is also correct but verizon is not that far behind so they are not that far from catching up..but hey what do i

What he is talking about is actually correct. There is an issue between what they call the "Blue"(atnt) network and the "Orange"(Cingular) networks. The problem is that as long as your phone picks up signal from an orange tower, it will not switch over to the blue tower, no matter which one has better signal. Its not that you have NO access to the blue network, its just not fully integrated, the two networks don't "talk" to each other yet, for example, in the case that you are driving down the road, and you start a call on a blue tower, your phone might not switch to a orange tower, so, the call drops, and you might look at the phone to find you have 5 bars of service. I agree. it's our job as reps to inform the customer about the star services, and if you work COR then you should be telling about them when you give the customer the service summary.
