they told me in sales dept that i woudl nto have to pay a deposit... when i go to the store (because i dont want to wait for the new line to ship) they tell me i have to pay 500!! for a deposit!! and then when i go online i get to checkout point and it doesnt list a deposit... what do i listen to...? this is making me so frustrated... its ridiculous especially when i was told in may i could add 5 lines without any type of deposit...!!!

typically when you got to a store, it will rerun your deposit.

So online you ran a credit app for up to 5 lines.

In the store you ran another one for number 6-?.

So according to the credit check, you are trying to sign up for at least 6 lines. that's most likely where the deposit is coming from.

It used to happen all the time at my store.

And why do you go over the phone, internet and in store? What is your deal? Go with the one over the phone or the Internet then. The reason a deposit was required was more than likely for the multiple credit apps used. With increasing problems with Iphone/Internet gambling there are more measures put in place for multiple credit apps.

no, i only activated 1 line. i wanted to activate number 2. i tried the store bc i wanted the phone right that day. didnt want to wait to ship. so i when i found out that they wanted 500 for a dep, i had them call CC. they told me that the most they coudl do was lower it to 300. i todl them i wasnt payign a deposit when i was told before that id pay no dep for up to 5 lines. so i went online to see what that would do when i get to checkout and it says total amount of order due today $267.56

Nothing about a deposit.

Go into a store and have them call analyst review and see if they can base the decision off of your payment history. The only issue there would be if you have several non-pay suspensions over the previous year then a deposit would be required.

Or... just order it online and wait.

If you *REALLY* have to have a phone *TODAY*... get a go-phone as a temporary replacement.

Why do I sense there is more to this story than is being revealed.

If your credit is good and you have a good payment history do you really think AT&T doesn't want your business?

And as far as online, they don't run a credit check instantly (or at least they used to not do it instantly).

Its done instantly now and if a deposit required they can pay on the website or call in to a special line that will take the payment. We actually do Transfer of Billing responsibility online now as well and a Split account with same name & SSN all online.

They have too many layers of bureaucracy. Way too many. Too many departments, and none of them know what the other departments are doing. Policy is not the same across departments, and no one communicates with one another.

One time when I called in just to update some info on my account, I ended up being placed on hold for several minutes...just for something simple!

And to make matters worse, in my city we have a lot of problems with spotty coverage and dropped calls. But when I called in, they denied it...

AT&T told me that according to their records we have good coverage here...and you know they are right: T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon provide great coverage here, so I took AT&T's hint and made the switch!

that was a great story, however every thing you said has nothing to do with the question asked. Congrats on being part of the 3% of the nation that dosent get good at&t coverage. This person seems to get coverage just fine, and really dosent care about your life story. They just want to know why the store required a deposit and online didnt. and the question was answered...I am sure the rep(s) that have helped you in the past are glad you switched. If i was the one the helped I know I would be Happy as F@#$
