Why has AT&T been last in so many different things in many different aspects. They are the last to introduce there Touch Pro 2 (Tilt 2) I know the delay was for 6.5 but the least they could have done was throw in a 3.5 jack, the last to introduce a unlimited calling feature (eg. A-List), the last to introduce a android (if its still on its way) come on now AT&T you used to be a leader in the industry and now has trailed behind a little bit. Catch up and show them what you got!

last for 4g, last in customer satisifaction, last in the race, last man standing, last night...couldnt even get an answer, last....
...
Actually I think Tmobile is going to be the last for 4G
...
Actually Tmo just launched increased data speed which is 4x what your "4g" will be..
...
what the hell are you talking about? HSPA? any speeds reached by HSPA with T-mobile will be the same as what AT&T can do.
...
Actually Tmo is deploying HSPA+, or at least they did in Philly, I don't know how many other places. I don't know if they have any actual usb modems to take advantage of HSPA+ speeds though.
...

So you are saying your HSPDA is giving you DL speeds of 40 MBS? considering cable companies struggle to offer that, I think you might want to drop the multiplier.
...
So far, the best speeds I've gotten on Clear is 14 & 15mbps, that 15mbps only happened once though, but I've gotten 14mbps quite a few times. So in some cases, Clear's speeds are slightly better than cable.
...
Hmm, first of all, theoretical speeds and REAL WORLD end user speeds are not the same, just because they're deploying HSPA+ doesn't mean everybody will be getting 21mbps download speeds. I've gotten speeds of 14 $ even 15mbps on my Clear connection.
...
I'd be happy with just 3G coverage.
...
you guys.... (sighs) ok, now that I have taken a deep breath...
AT&T doesn't have to jump to LTE just yet, there's a few upgrades left on 3G that once finished will have very comparable speeds to 4G. Why is Vz and Sprint rushing to 4G? Because they reached a dead-end. Their EVDO cannot go any further, so they HAD to look for other alternatives (4G)
When they deploy 4G it'll be in its infancy and it won't have its full potential. AT&T might just sit and watch and learn from what they're doing and come up with an updated or newer version of LTE.
In the meantime 3G is working just fine (I'm in a 850Mhz area)
...
Amen to that. i work for AT@T(wireline side) and the focus right now is on coverage. we were introduced with a site that you can report dropped calls and get a response via email. The website also lists where and when new cell sites are going live or improved coverage(ie 850). They are improving the network day by day. they will wait and see Verizon work through the kinks and then roll it out. Good point Anxiovert

Well...whats the website?
...
Sorry to mention that it is an internal website to Att employees. Just wanted to mention like never before that I have seen Att is committing to improving coverage, but I think that there phone selection is slightly lacking. The next year will be interesting to say the least.

Besides that ATT's "upgrades" seem to be increasing speeds in the same areas without really increasing footprint.
4g allows for fewer towers to cover large areas of land.
ATT can take their time with 4g, because as you said, infant 4g=hspda (or so).
I guess what I don't get is why not be aggressive with either 3g coverage rollout, or 4g rollout? HSPDA is FAST, but how many people still only have Edge where they live?
And CDMA carriers could go further, either through EVDV, or other similar technologies, but it's not cost effective for them to build out the 3g networks and then have to lay it over with 4g anyway.

Verizon and Sprint COULD have chosen to continue on the EV-DO path to at least Rev. C Verizon made its decision partly based on the fact that one of its parents, Vodaphone is stepping up to LTE. It just makes good business sense. However, Verizon rather than using a VOLGA option for voice is going to continue to use it's CDMA1x for voice. LTE proponents think this is crazy because they feel that the advantage to all carriers having LTE would be for seamless roaming between carriers. I applaud Verizon for NOT making it capable for its rival (AT&T) to delay LTE for two or three years and then jump into the space and use Verizon's LTE network for voice roaming. The damned government mandates voice (but not data) roaming so whenever AT&T s...

We've always waited for someone else to act first. I'm not sure if we've ever done anything Verizon didn't do three days prior.
...
I want to say thats a good thing but at the same time AT&T was the pioneers of inovation. But now like you said they seem to wait to see "what happens"
...
I totally agree. But mainly with the new phone issue. What is Att releasing for the holiday if anything? Their are no Android phones til early NEXT year, no new Palm phones (only rumors at this point). The only phones that have gotten any press are the Tilt 2 and the Blackberry 9700. Not everyone cares about the iPhone. Come on Att, where is the love????

If you're not getting an iphone, you obviously don't know what's best for you.
/sarcasm 😎
...
Pushing the iphone has worked quite well for AT&T. 3.2 million iPhones activated 3rd quarter, 40 percent of which were customers new to the carrier. I wish Verizon would try it.
...
MennoOct 27, 2009, 10:59 AM
I can see it now:
"I have the digital choice 50 plan with verizon, and I demand an iphone for free and you need to block data because I've been a customer for a million years!"
...
Uh...no. You would tell that customer the same thing you would tell them if they wanted a Storm or Omnia. "We do value you as a customer, unfortunately that device requires a Nationwide calling plan." (as per any smartphone Verizon sells) and an unlimited data plan is also required. Come now Menno. Don't single out the iphone. The Omnia or Storm would be the same for that dinosaur of a customer. If they want an iphone, they will need to change that rate plan and data cannot be blocked just as with a Storm or Omnia.
...
As to getting a free iphone, Storm or Omnia...
Not just no...
...
MennoOct 27, 2009, 4:47 PM
It was sarcasm >.>
we get those customers all the time. though.. seem to think that since they've had their plans "forever" the rules don't apply.
Almost as entertaining as the people who want a phone for 2yr pricing every three months.
...
Oh yeah. Which is why I wish consumers had to buy their handsets directly from the manufacturer. They act as though the phones are free for the carrier to buy.
...
Verizon's the first to cripple their phones.
...
Thank god we haven't jumped on that one yet. I'm also thankful we stick to advertising our product rather than bashing another. I remember those kinds of kids in my marketing program. They only thought that way because they couldn't think of anything good enough with their own product.
...
It works in politics, Willie Horton.
...
Microsoft has made quite a living following that business plan!
...
AT&T is the first ( and only ) with rollover minutes. 🙂
...
and who cares? So you can save up a million mins and have what a million mins you don't use? There is a reason why everyone picked up a A list type of service and NOT a rollover type of service.. Because frankly roll over is lame and the commercials suck too.
...
Next time, since we are discussing facts, could you please use a deductive argument? Your inductive argument is SEVERELY flawed. 🙂
...
Because frankly roll over is lame and the commercials suck too.
WHAT! 😲
That chick is hot in a MILF kind of way. 🤤

At&t doesn't manafacture phones. Wanna be mad at someone? Blame HTC. They haven't had a separate jack on their phones since the days of the 8125 and the 2125.
...
Your completely right about that they don't. But if they can have the keyboard changed specifically for them then they have alot of say in how the phone is designed. Just like sprint And Verizon requested the 3.5 mm Jack they could have also.
...
Well, if that's the case, I apologize. You're on to something, though. When I had a Tilt, before switching carriers, it was annoying to use the headphones (which weren't included like the other carrier's versions [but that's a whole nother thread]) via the splitter, while charging it.
...
No doubt about it. If AT&T sent a memo to HTC stating that the WOULD have purchased x amount of phones had they had a 3.5mm port, but as it stands they won't be...I think HTC might build future handsets with 3.5mm ports.
...
It's not about AT&T manafacturing the phones. It's about what "new" ones we get. Verizon just announced how many new phones? A good bit right. I love my iPhone 100% but as a sales consultant it would be nice to have a few more new phones to talk about this Christmas. Other then the the revel and flight which no one knows anything about.
...
You ever notice if you goto VZW's website you can choose the price of the phone based on month-month, 1 year, and 2 year contracts. Even TMO now offers plans based on buying the phone outright.
Last time I was in an ATT store I asked about purchasing an iPhone on a 1 year contract, um we don't do that.
C-YA! 😡
