AT&T Authorized Retailer iPhone

Hombre07

Oct 8, 2009, 2:01 PM
November and January

Some stores next month
Some stores in January

Authorized retailers can carry the iPhone if they want to opt in on it, all models all colors, no set pricing, that's right it could be a free iPhone.

Confirmed today at 1230 on conference calls.

You heard it here first!

Hammering out the solid details in the next couple weeks.

Agent pricing is set.

They're finalizing the commission structure.

Still working out details of Apple care pricing.

We know we will have to install one of the Apple displays with two live phones.

No advertising of our own, it has to be corporate crap.

But agents setting their own price should open things up a bit.

Expect your subsidy to be $200+. I doubt many agents will undercut corporate pricing for the sheer fact that they won't make money otherwise.

Oct 9, 2009, 6:08 AM
Tex is right. Pricing is set in agreement with Apple.

You cannot make money selling this phone.
even at MSRP, a 3x or 4x feature payment and hitting VAB, you are still upside down.

Also, how many could you actually stock?
even with a $100,000 open to buy, thats 200 iphones and you have nothing left. no other phones and no credit.

this is not good for business.

Who stocks 200 iPhones? I was thinking 30 tops, maybe ten of each, and still keeping everything else. Some agents will stock the iPhone and probably ten other phones total and that will make them fail. Just because we have the iPhone doesn't mean we can dumb the Blackberry. There a store in my area that I would be willing to bet that's what they will do.

Your right, but we also let $500 bolds sit on the shelf for months without selling them. We are also losing residual activations by not being able to sell the iphone. Even if there is a little profit to be made it will be worth it. Especially when the customer wants to add three non-iphone lines to their account for their family. It will also increase future revenue since we have been telling customers to go to other stores for two years to get what they want. I don't know about your stores but our traffic has fallin greatly since the iphone was released. I know its not solely from the iphone, but constantly telling customers to go somewhere else is bad for business.

I've seen the cost to bring it in. It's not pretty. The 16GB 3G version is just a hair pricier than the Fuze. It only goes up from there. I figure the data plan is required, and chances are with an iPhone your going to text, and with a couple accessories hopefully it comes out in our favor. They haven't released the commissions to us yet.

Even if we make very little GP on the iPhone its a GOOD thing. Not even a minute ago I just had to tell a guy to go to a store that has the iPhone but I might lose his two other lines that he's porting over all because we don't have the ONE phone he was looking for. What we'll make our money on is the other lines that we lose to not having ONE phone.

Dude your a moron. I am sure it goes both ways. Do you know how many times I fix a mistake from someone from COR? I can't count on one hand how many times I need to fix a mistake from COR. Everyday people say how rude the COR people are and that they only care about sales and wont give them any CS in store. But on another note, keep on putting features on wrong so I can correct them and claim it. COR is the biggest joke of sales people. 🤣

I'm not taking sides here but I have to say that i purchased two iphones at the same time and did not find out til I got my first bill that the rep at a corporate store failed to put the iphone data package on one of my iphones. This was brought to my attention when my first bill was roughly $1500 initially from pay as u go data on that iphone. Needless to say i called customer service and it was all straightened out and to compensate for the mistake, all of my activation fees were refunded(4 lines) and was also given the data package on that iphone for free for a couple months. So in the end, yes it was a corporate employee who made the mistake, but it was also a corporate employee that made it right and compensated me quite well for the...

well then i appreciate your help, but around here, authorized agents are the reason i spend half of my day with customer service issues, and not being able to sell, maybe in your area the corporate stores aren't up to the task, but in our market, the customers don't leave COR stores without being completely satisfied, and if there is a mistake, we take full responsibility. im not judging you as an authorized agent employee, but the guys around here give all authorized agents a bad name...

Hey emoandy just wanted to let you know your a jack ass!! 😁 Why you would come on this forum and try to take away from our joy is beyond me, makes me think your a little scared of the idea of us selling the iphone and not because you think we are going to make mistakes on customers accounts but because now we can sell the iphone at any price we want which possibly means you loosing sales and commission. I have to agree with the previous posters COR agents make more mistakes that I care to elaborate on its ridiculous how AT&T can hire so many morons!

Ash,

You would have to agree to poke fun at the things your customers say that were told to them by an agent location. Amamzing, for a communications company, the flow of information is not communicated properly or in a timely manner!

I am amused to at the amount of misinformation given by my neighboring dealer locations. Sometimes I have to laugh for the most part, but sometimes get frustrated.

Dont get too much feedback from COR stores as the closest one to any of my stores is 35 miles away. Well, someone mentions the long wait times for an accessory purchase, etc. Fortunatly, I have an incredible amount of repeat business and large customer base that doesnt stray....often.

Now if you want to call yourself a moron I wont object but like I said I didn't call you a moron. By the way I am very proud of you for being in the top 5 sales reps out of your market all the time that's really nice, let me ask you a question, how do you do it? Do you just blow your customers away with all your charm, or are you a jack ass to them too? If you haven't learned anything on this forum there is no point to post something you just cant prove, or else I guess I'd start going around telling everybody I am the top sales rep in my market!...

Skiburn,

I am wondering how at&t can differintiate points of distribution even among agents? That rational still seems arogant to me.

Obviously the larger Premier agents nationwide will recieve it.

If a dealer is willing to jump through hoops to train their staff, pay out of pocket for iphone displays (expensive), and keeps a healthy stock of iphones, why not make it even accross the board?

Wait, that would be common sense, something our loving carrier lacks for the most part.

Our agent just announced we are one of three agents in the NYC market, one of two in the Philly Market, and ONLY one in Virginia to get the iPhone. The bad news is Apple is looking at our stores to see which of our stores will be approved and we will be told at a later date what are the details of that. So now for us 20 agents we pretty much will have to stop bashing it but at least we won't be losing those other sales that come along with it. What really sucks is the GP is very LOW.

I wonder if that January non-corporate release is any indicator of the iPhone exclusivity in North America coming to a close. El Capitan indicated in his 3Q statements that he has not secured an extended exclusivity period.

It just makes sense to me. AT&T CAN'T keep the phones out of retailer inventories once their exclusivity expires, can they?

Oct 26, 2009, 9:27 AM
Hard telling, first we would have to get Apple to agree to sell them to us. As soon as we did that I'm sure we would get a breach letter from AT&T saying we can only sell and activate their approved phones and we are not approved to sell that device and if we don't stop they'll pull our license. It may not be fair or right but in the end they can do whatever they want to us. It all boils down to us complying to them or them closing us.
