I had the first iphone that came out and had to have the $15 data and when the new 3G came out you had to pay double that, they said it was because it was a lot faster and you would use way more data, ok great but I like many live where they can not get 3G now and wont for a long time. Should I still have to pay for this service that is not provided to me. Just like with the new smart phone plan, I should pay for the higher data plan and not get to use it. I mean come on how much data will I really use on edge? I will tell you now not much at all, its to damn slow, I use wifi or nothing. So why should have to pay more?

Why don't you just get an itouch instead then and save yourself $720 over the course of two years.

you would pay more because you're on a faster network with more capabilities. if you dont want to pay the $30 then dont get the 3G. And if you didnt have to pay for the data plan then you would have excessive amount of data usage charges on your bill which is $2/MB it used to be .01/kb

Customers always are trying to find a loophole in the system: I don't have 3G, I don't want to pay double, I'll never use the internet. Truth is, yes you will. And without that 30 dollar data plan on your account, you'll experience high usage charges on your bill, to which you'll come into a store and protest that you've NEVER used the internet. The iPhone constantly transmits data, thus, data plan required. BTW, "data" doesn't just mean safari and email. If you turn the phone on, you use data.

Well why dont they just charge the $15 plan in an area that they know they dont have 3G?

I am in an edge area and have a bold. I use my phone mainly for email and a little web browsing. I use on average about a 100 Meg of internet a month.

What I wish att would do for people like you would be to let you have an iphone without an internet package and then make you pay the usage charges.

So, every time you weren't at one of those places you would turn your phone off?

You should have stayed with your first iPhone.
