Does anybody knows how to program V-551 in order for voicemail not to ask your passcode when you access it???? 😳

go to your menu, messages, voice messages and voicemailbox number. enter in 1(areacode)phone number, a series of pauses(either by pressing and holding star, or star key 3 times quikly, then # then your passcode. save. done.

yea getting the pauses does vary with each phone... but the dialing string is the same none the less. (1-area code - phone number pppp# pw). that much is universal. i mainly deal with nokias....for some reason i rarley see people with moto phones. so the VM steps i provided mainly detail nokia phones. but like i said. the sequence is the same. just how you get the pauses (p) is dffrent.

I never do that, and my voicemail works just fine, nationwide.

I thought the "1" prefix was a holdover from landlines, where it's necessary. It's never necessary on any cellphone, AFAIK.

Just curious, does anyone enter the "1" on every addressbook entry? (Try skipping it).

the above responses are geard to progamming in your acsess to voicemail thru 1 button acsess. some people prefer to go in thru VM by only pressing 1 key. the reason for the "1"? the voice mail server is probally not in you local area. therefore it counts as a longdistance call. wich requires the 1 prefix. now, calls to your voicemail do not get charged as longdistance, only local minutes if used from wireless. but the fact remains that the main server is probally long distance, and thusly requires the afore mentioned prefix. silly...but its just one key. once its all programmed in it shouldnt even be noticable...just 1 extra tone in the already long dialing string.
