Long time Verizon customer considering switching

Bottom line, I love the IPhone but have heard horrible things about AT&T's service. Can anyone tell me honestly how reliable / clear it is?

Thanks.

In my experience where ATT has 3G it's clearer than VZW. I've never had any trouble with their service.
Don't know about the iPhone but everyone seems to have em'.
Give ATT a try before you port and see if you like the phone and service.

do yourself a favor and check into JD Powers rankings of cell phone and Consumer Reports as well. ATT may have the I Phone which is ok ( nothing really that spectacular if you want to compare devices head up)...ATT ranks towards the bottom for coverage maps, call quality and dropped calls. ATT is now the second largest network out there, so VZW subscribers have more people to call for free.

Just grab a storm, it performs better than an I Phone, the app store will be out in Feb, and this phone can be insured, has a full warranty, TRUE 3g support in 85% of America ( ATT is more down towards 40% ) , multiple web browsers including opera mini and firefox, customization of the home screen to set it up the way you want and give you quicker acc...

sounds more like an advertisement than a suggestion..

like the first responder said - your best bet is to try it out in YOUR area. someone from Alabama could tell you carrier X sucks, but if you live in Florida, what does he know? contrary to what the godfather tells you, there ARE some areas where Verizon doesn't work well and AT&T does. it goes both ways for all carriers.

i live in western NY and have no problems AT ALL with my AT&T service in the places that I go. this is not say that everyone everywhere around here has the same experience as everyone works and lives in different places, but for me, it is "perfect"

AT&T has a 30 day return policy. if you port your number, you can still port back within that 30 days to your old ca...

apple or a third party insurance will cover the iphone, the only people that do not know this are the kids who only want it because they saw it on TV, same goes for the storm. nobody knows what it is besides they saw it on TV and it goes 'click'. i have been asked multiple times about the storm and work for at&t, shows how much people pay attention

Yeah, I know that's always high on everyone's list! How man more strangers can I call for free? Ok ready to dial...damn, don't know their numbers though.

there is NOTHING cheaper about going to ATT no matter what these children here claim

Do you find being condescending an effective sales tactic in your neck of the woods?

over 300 million people you can message for free anytime

Cause everyone loves to send free messages to strangers around the world. Is that really a selling point you use? 🤣

You should try At&t on your own they give you a 30 day trial that's more then enough time. I got my iphone 3g when it first came out and I'm not going to lie it was horrible. Many lags and dropped calls. Now I have the 2.2 software and my iPhone is great no more lags or any dropped calls. Where I'm at AT&T has better service then verizon. It's full bars on AT&T vs. 2 if not 1 on verizon. Don't pay any attention to any reviews. Try it out on your own! Good luck!

As stated by many on this particular issue you're all right except for the GodFather; he's out of his mind!!! This is why we have so many carrier to choose from cause not one carrier can have the best signal everywhere. For example where i live Sprint has the absolute best coverage available and is by far the cheapest out there amongst carriers. However if you travel about 45 mins to an hour north of here AT&T is the best carrier because they have more towers so really it comes down to who has the best coverage and gives you the most bang for your buck. Make up your own mind try it out and if AT&T doesn't work try Sprint and if they suck try Verizon but the point is find a carrier who gives you the best service and price for what you wan...

It really depends on where you live, work and travel. AT&T might suck where you live. Is this from people that you value their opinion? Do they have reasons why or are you getting this data from places like here? Most of the people on here have myopic opinions (take the godfather for example).

I can tell you this, the iPhone does NOT have the greatest reception in the world. You might consider other options before switching just for that.

Thank you all for your responses. Just to clarify, I love Verizons network, I've never had a dropped call and I travel a lot. That said, I looked at the Storm and the Omnia, and while these look like great business phones, I don't really need Microsoft Office on my phone. I'm looking for a sleek phone that has some fun apps. and the fact its also an Ipod really doesn't hurt. All I really care about here is consistently and reliably getting my bars,

If you decide you are getting an iPhone, let me know. The dealer I work for offers insurance for the iPhone. If your in PA,VA, NJ, or NY let me know and I'll hook you up. $5.99/month $75 deductible.

If you do decide to grab an iPhone, remember it is not an ATT phone. It's Apple's. I'm not a big fan of them and get tired of having to tell customers that they have to contact Apple for iPhone problems.

att's network and customer service is garbage. the iphone is cool but it has suspect battery life and drops a ton of calls due to having a bad 3g chip in it. the phone goes between edge and 3g back and forth causing calls to drop.

CDMA is also > GSM. better capacity, better security, better building penetration, less interference with other electrical objects, and CDMA supports soft hand offs from tower to tower GSM I do not believe does.

look at jdpower.com and the latest consumer reports
Verizon Wireless:
#1 in Customer Care
#1 in Customer Loyalty the last 16 Quarters (4 years) in a row
#1 network hands down, no argument

Wow! That is impressive. I'm totally thinking of switching to a company that is about to show us the meaning of dropped calls when they force their customers over to LTE. ATT would be dropping customers like Sprint if their network is so inferior. Granted, the iPhone is junk, but phones like the Bold, Blackjack II, Eternity, Rugby, Curve, Pearl, and the Fuze are better devices that all allow 3G speeds. The guy has clearly made up his mind. ATT and VZW are the Coke and Pepsi of cell phones. They both have their good and bad qualities. By the way, quoting Consumer Reports is not the way to give yourself credibility. That magazine is full of crap about cars, cell phones, and other items. They don't even do their due diligence with the...

It's like they don't want them to know that the grass is greener on the other side!

So AvgJoe, what are your thoughts on that beast of a phone the N97?

I've owned my N95 now for over a year, I'm not too sure how I'd feel about a touch screen phone like the N97, I'd wash my hands a whole lot more that's for sure, so I wouldn't get the screen scuffed up.

It sure would be nice to have a large screen & slide out keyboard. I'm glad Nokia put a lens cover on the camera!

The specs aren't quite finalized yet, but I will be extremely dissapointed if the North American version doesn't have HSPA 7.2 & HSUPA 1.8.

It's battery is reported to have 1500mAh capacity, I think it would be nice if it had more like 1700mAh battery.

Hopefully there will be an economic stimulus check this year like there was last year, so I could ...

As some of you have probably read my reviews I'm known to defend Verizon's network (and I still think their network is cool) BUT...I live in a city where about 9 out of 10 people have AT&T so I decided to try them out and all I have to say is WOW! There really is a difference in phone quality between CDMA and GSM networks. GSM phones are just built better. The last phone I bought on Verizon was just a shame, and a waste of money. Between the VZW commie software and cheap phone quality I had to try AT&T. I like the 3G network, alot faster than VZW's EVDO. More content on AT&T's CV compaired to VZW's Vcast. More features like Rollover, Video Share, early nights/weekends etc. The sound quality and reception is great here. I found out s...

Welcome to AT&T cellgeek82 , I'm glad you made your own choice and didn't listen to the fan boys on this site 🙄 . I agree that you have to judge your coverage according to where you use the phone the most , Verizon has a good network but lets be honest people, no network (in the states at least) is as good as Verizon would have you believe their network is. As for AT&T there network has improved dramatically compared to a few years ago , If there network was so bad Verizon should have buried them by now but guess what there network has just gotten better and better through out the years . I am a strong advocate for competition and having several wireless companies vying for my business is a great thing but if one or two companies beco...

Um I did travel out of town, the only choice I had where I used to live was Verizon and Alltel, both over ego'd networks. Now that I have the option of trying out AT&T I thought I'd give it a try. And as for inferior, Verizon is inferior in this city. AT&T has more towers and more reliable 3G network where I live now. I signed up for AT&T on the side of my Verizon account so I could truly compair and I get more bars on AT&T and the calls are crystal clear and haven't had one dropped call. Verizon was sometimes jumping to Extended Network, sometimes I dropped calls, dropping 3G, and when I did have 3G my Vcast was constantly rebuffering. Most people here have AT&T so that proves they work better here. I still think Verizon is a great n...

Two sides of a rumor: Verizon could get iPhone in 2009
By David Chartier | Published: September 30, 2008 - 09:28AM CT

AT&T could lose its iPhone exclusivity to Verizon as early as next year. The latest in the iPhone saga here in the US says that Apple and Verizon are in talks to bring the iPhone to Verizon sometime in 2009, with an announcement possibly as early as Macworld 2009 (which takes place in January). Granted it's just a rumor from 9 to 5 Mac, but there are plenty of good reasons to believe or disbelieve, so we thought we'd run through a few of the big hitters.

Yay
