BB Bold, OUCH!

The phone is married to what is quickly becoming the worst wireless network in the U.S. – AT&T. The high number of dropped calls and slow 3G speeds have dampened the joy of using Bold in the brief time I have tested device, which is a shame, because it is the Audi A8 of smartphones: good-looking, durable, easy to use and a texter’s delight. It would be perfect on Verizon’s EVDO network.

😳
The above is from a review of the BB Bold back in November I came across researching the Bold.
Here's a link to the actual review.

A review of the Bold, eh? Sounds like someone tossing out opinions about the network and making a plug for a network that has nothing to do with the Bold. I say opinions because there have been numerous articles published in trade magazines reviewing 3G speed comparisons, and they don't match up with what this guy says. Dropped calls depends on coverage and location. I use my phone several hours a day and only rarely have I dropped a call (and I am on converence calls for an hour at a time, no problems). Of course all of this is absolutely irrelevant to the Bold.

If he's going to review a product, stick to the product. Otherwise people won't bother reading his "reviews".

I use it in store, my personal phone is still a Curve. I didn't move to a Bold simply because I didn't need the wi-fi and 4.5os for the Curve gives me the ability to record and stream video. Since I cannot upgrade like a regular customer, the cost for me outweighs any benefit. Although I love watching vids on it! 🤤

Usually the Camcorder is added when you update the operating system on the phone. When you go to the Blackberry site there is an option to upgrade the software. This will probably fix the issue with the device not having a cam corder.

I have the 4.5os on my Curve. Which is why I don't need the Bold. I can record and stream video.

I stated that I have 4.5 which can record and stream video. I stated I didn't get the Bold because I don't need the Wifi. I never stated I had an issue with the device not having a cam corder.

What point did I miss?

how do you get 4.5 on it? I've heard some rumors how but since you've done it what are the proper steps.

I have the Bold and its rad... I had the curve with 4.5 before which was pretty awesome. But nothing compairs to the bold. The bold is so much better. People just have to try and bash on at&t to make them feel better.

Nah, At&t does a pretty good job doing that itself. Bring it to EVDO to see what it could really do.

As a Bold user, I can only say that this website's credibility is paltry at best. I have never had a dropped call and always experience fast 3G speeds(but I suppose its not entirely impossible to have a bad experience). Seems like this guy already has an opinion even before he tested the Bold about AT&T's "sub par" network. Everyone keeps talking about how crappy the network is, but yet they still manage to add millions of customers each quarter. It just doesn't make sense to me. If it was so terrible then we'd be hemorrhaging customers like Sprint.

I actually work for Sprint and have talked with SEVERAl AT&T customers about their service and it's not that AT&T service is bad but how expensive it is for their customers. Lets face it there are no perfect cell companies Sprint has it's faults just as much as Verizon and AT&T. However Sprint is the cheapest of the big 3 and thats what our customers like is being able to afford their cellular services. But of course you say what about Sprint's billing issues, you can't tell me that AT&T and Verizon don't have billing issues and if you do i'm gonna say BS!! But what about Sprint's customer service??? Easily rectified by going into a store and finding a rep who knows what he's doing and having him help you. So really whats so great abou...

at&t does not have billing issues. Just customers who can't read their bills.

This guy's judgment is questionable simply for calling the Audi A8 "durable." 😳 I had an A6 and it was not durable at all ... and the repairs were damned expensive.
