Why AT&T??? Why??????
AT&T Testing 7.2Mbps Downloads In Chicago
Today, 1:38 PM by Eric M. Zeman
An AT&T spokesperson recently commented that the company has been trialling 7.2Mbps downloads in Chicago, and will boost those speeds to 14.4Mbps in the near future. According to AT&T, it plans to upgrade its existing HSPA network to HSPA+ before transitioning to LTE. Some of AT&T's competitors, such as Verizon Wireless, have indicated that they may begin rolling out their next-generation LTE networks as early as late 2009. Chicago also happens to be one of the markets picked by Cle...

Chicago= 1 city (Increasing network speed; not expanding network)
You seem confused so I'll break it down for you:
Chicago small, country big, network need grow to stay strong
Good job with the copy and paste!
Chicago is a testing city... When they have it successful then they will launch it nation wide. The article just said that Verzion is just talking about possibly launching and LTE network sometime in the future... AT&T is actually doing this in one market. Once its a consistent thing they will upgrade the whole level. I'm sorry but you just need to be updated on how network upgrading goes... IDIOT...
We are the home of the cellular phone, so testing in our city is the best decision! (Go Chi-Town!)

They laughed at how the article was so "on the fence" and joked about how it really did not commit them to anything.
Verizon is an outstanding company but wake up and stop being a homer. They no more commited to LTE in 12 months than did AT&T. IT WAS A PRESS RELEASE.

Verizon to deploy LTE by late 2009
December 10, 2008 รยขรขโยฌโย 10:24am ET | By Phil Goldstein
Verizon Wireless will begin deploying Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless broadband technology by the end of 2009, accelerating their rollout timetable, a top executive said Tuesday.
Dick Lynch, executive vice president and CTO of Verizon Communications, said the carrier expected to deploy LTE sooner than expected. "We expect that LTE will actually be in service somewhere here in the U.S. probably this time next year," Lynch said, in a speech at Cisco Systems' C-Scape conference in San Jose, Calif. P...

The release said Verizon plans to deploy LTE in 2009.
Only plans? Why didn't they promise? "Plans to" is fluff. Once you have an actual nationwide rollout then you have something more.

This may only be in one city like Sprint'sWiMax deployment this year, but it's still progress.
One city is not the country. Remember your asinine rant? City, small. Country, big. ๐

Verizon is becoming the largest carrier, Verizon is going to start deploying LTE next year, Verizon has the largest 3G network, but AT&T has the iPhone. Why isn't AT&T making improving their network their #1 priority? I know AT&T has decent reception, but it's not the best. (And don't try to feed me the "based on global coverage" BS) I've had AT&T (Cingular) since 2002 and really like GSM phones, but in a few years when Verizon has the best LTE network who's going to get the best exclusive phones?
I wish AT&T would put more effort into improving the network and the coverage. Alltel is their primary GSM roaming partner, and if I were AT&T I would be humping Verizon's leg trying to get the...

Agreed, if AT&T doesn't switch their focus to native coverage improvements and aggressive 3G expansion Verizon will be almost impossible to stop. I'm not a Verizon fan, I have AT&T, but they understand network quality is the determining factor in remaining number one.
I agree with you. Part of what took down the old AT&T Wireless was a lack of focus on building out and improving the network. If the old AT&T Wireless would have discontinued TDMA back in the 90s and picked up GSM or CDMA, they would probably be number one today. But no. In 2004 they sold themselves to Cingular. Cingular had a great network until they became AT&T. But now it seems like the bad habit of not putting enou...
