Pick a personalized # (314 area code)

I'm a big dork and I want to pick my own phone number, so I can have it spell something meaningful and memorable. I tried to call and get a listing of 314 prefixes (the first three digits) so I could come up with some options before I go to buy the phone, but the people I speak to say they don't have a list or that I can't pick my own number at all. Does anyone know what 314 prefixes Cingular owns or where I can find out? Thanks! (oh, and I'm getting the v551, probaly from buy.com, since it's free!)

Stop in a store. If they use Telegence, it is VERY easy to find an available phone number. I'm not at work, so i don't know what billing system is in use in the 314 area code.

I dont know Cingular has the same prefixes at ATTWS, but ours are 239, 258, 308, 378, 406, 409, 422, 452, 566, 614, 616, 651, 724, and 753

Some (if not all) of those used to belong to ATTWS. Also in the 314 area code, mine is one of the above prefixes, my roommate's is another, and an old friend's is a third- all AT&T Wireless users.

Even if you pick out number, the unfortunate side is that buy.com probably won't allow you to activate it. Another downside is if you get the phone through them, and want to change your number there is a $36 number change fee, and by changing your number, you may be in breech of the contract that you are signing with them as an agent as well... Other than that, if you go to your local COR store they can look it up for you, BUT unless you activate it there they can not guarantee that it will be available when you activate it unless its there and then... I am sorry. ☚ī¸

Just call Cingular and ask for their "Vanity" option...they'll give you any number you want for a nominal fee.

No, it's totally true. You can also ask for a handset outfitted with a subspace transponder for broader coverage.

kinda true... vanity numbers can be chosen from the numbers that the company has available.

You got that right! But I certainly embrace my inner dorkitude. Heck, that's how I can sense others so well!
