Rounding minutes up on bill
KujaNov 3, 2008, 4:01 PM
I noticed that I had a phone call today and my phone said the call duration was exactly 2 minutes. But when I looked online, I happened to see that my account says it was a 3 minute call.
Whats up with that? If it was 2 minutes and 1 second long, then that would be understandable (but still annoying).
I looked at yesterday's log and noticed I had another call for 2 minutes, and it said 3 minutes also. It was Sunday, but still, if I noticed 2 of these in 2 days, how many other times has this happened...
Is it worth calling in and asking for minutes back?
...
if you're talking for more than 30 seconds then it's going to round up to the next minute. for example, if you talk for a minute and 45 seconds, then it's going to round up to 2 mins., and so on in that fasion.
Otherwise it look like you're reading your minutes wrong.

Your call log is not accurate to what is billed on the system. Most phones do not track time the exact same way.

You can't always go by the counter on your phone, because they're off by a few seconds. Whenever you call someone your phone starts counting as soon as the other party picks up, when in reality, in the billing system, time starts as soon as you press send (this is stated in the T&C's)

So you mean if I hang up before the person picks up and before I get to voicemail, it is still a minute?

Only after so many seconds. I believe it's 20 or 30 seconds. Check your T&C's

Most service providers are 30 seconds of ringing before billing starts. Voicemail typically picks up in under 25 seconds.
And remember, all 800 numbers are billed immediately as they connect to a landline number immediately.
