ATT MMS

So, dose ATT's MMS work on a samrtphone, Blackberry, etc without a data plan?
Basically I've got my account set up with voice and everything else is pay-per-use witch I would think allow MMS to work.
I mean you can have MMS on a regular phone without a data plan.

MMS will work on pda devices with a ppu on the account but it will not work on a blackberry. At least I do not know how to make it work on a blackberry.

MMS will work on all new phones INCLUDING the blackberries without a data plan. All you need is the Pay per use for internet. I have done this on a blackberry curve 8300 and 8310. Some older blackberries won't do it without the data plan though. i.e. pearl 8100

Which payperuse are you adding? I haven't gotten it to work yet. I'm using POSII with Telegence. 😕

Do you know the soc?

Curiously it worked on my dealer account while it had the 5meg package. I haven't gotten it to work on a customers phone however.

I've never be able to get it to work on a BB. Our BB trainer said that it won't work either. MMS needs Media Net or BB's network to send. With a BB you can only access BB's network not media net. You cannot use MMS till you add BB unlimited plans cause it will not access Media Net. I hope that is convoluted enough.

You can add Media Net Pay Per Use and you can receive MMS. I have done it on several cust phones and it works fine, as long as they have a messaging plan.

It WILL NOT work on a BlackBerry. You have to have a BIS plan added on there. If someone's managed to make this work, let me know. Although, it's a great way to get people to add that feature.

The most aggrivating thing I find with BIS is that it won't work in any other phone. I was trying to play with an Epix today (which is sweet, might I add), and I could only use the wifi to browse. It's a bit annoying.

See! This is exactly how my blackberry is. I don't have a BB plan, just media net access and it works. Like I said before this isn't on all blackberry models just 8300,8310,8120,8110. Older models still need a BB package. BB is enabling this on their phones to have more market penetration capabilities with their products.

Wrong, well sort of. You can not add the mentioned package to an account with a Blackberry IMEI using POSII. It simply won't let you.

it works with blackberries made within the last 6 months or so cause they changed something on the account and phone which allows blackberries to recieve mms without blackberry data. I have seen it work but its a new thing they have not always been able to.

I have a Curve and don't have the stupid BB data connect on my acct, only Unlimited MediaNet, and my Curve has sent MMS's just fine.

In case your wondering why I referred to the BB data connect plan as stupid is because I refuse to believe in specific plans for specific devices. The entire wireless industry is under some stupid Illusion that internet is so different on a BB, or a WinMo device compared to a regular flip or slider phone, but in REALITY viewing Phone Scoop on a BB, a WinMo device or a regular phone using Opera Mini 4.1 looks precisely the same, including viewing Phone Scoop or any other website on a PC, it's all the same, only differences are screen size. I know, I own a BB Curve, Blackjack 2, and N95-3, and I don't have any...

Personally I have no need for BB msgr. But consumers shouldn't be forced to get BIS or BES, consumers should get whatever rate plan best suits they're individual needs.

Cingular used to have a saying: "Cingular fits you best" I think that was the saying.

For mobile email, myphone#@mms.att.net works plenty fine for me, whatever suits the consumer best.

WEll good thing at&t doesn't force consumers to sign up for a BIS or BES service to use a blackberry.

Oh...I thought they did. Well doesn't AT&T force people into a PDA Data Connect plan on smartphones like the Tilt & Fuze and lie to customers and tell them them internet won't work w/o paying twice the amount of what Unlimited MediaNet costs?

I've got a Blackjack 2, and $15/mo Unlimited MediaNet works just fine.

I had the same set up, $15/mo Unlimited MediaNet with a BlackJack 2. And it worked fine. But then I got really cheap and called ATT and asked if they had an even lower data plan and I was told since I had a smartphone I HAD to have a data plan (witch I'm sure is illegal in some way). But either way they were able to drop me down to a pay-per-use plan. The CS agent even told me how much I would of spent with a pay-per-use for the previous month, $14. 😲

Nope. If a rep says that they are lying. You only need the internet if you want email and internet. The only company that mandates a data package for a blackberry is Verizon.

The only data device that is required to have any kind of data plan is the iPhone. All the other data devices say you need the data plan to get the mail in rebate. You can use the unlimited media net for $15/m but if your account ever gets audited they will remove the plan and charge you. The reason why it is more expensive and why its not illegal to make you have a different data plan for data devices is because they use a lot more band width and internet to receive email and browse the web. On a regular device its very minimal because the web capabilities are not as advanced. Every company does it so stop your crying...

Not necessarily. I could use a ton more data on a w760 than I every would on my curve. The argument is that typcially blackberry users use more bandwidth than normal users. Comparing capabilities is dumb argument especially comparing a 3g phone to a 2g blackberry.

Blackberry to Media Net is a little different. Also, 3G wasn't around when the PDA and BB prices were set. Since then, they have both come down.

They charge more because it uses more. You pay for what you use. Also, have fun when customer care notices you are using a PDA IMEI with a Media Net Unlimited SOC.

No, he is connecting to MediaNet. I was able to do it on my dealer account as well. You can get around the SOC issue if you have another device listed for the IMEI, however you can not do it if it's the listed device. So, buy a bb outright and you can get around this, till you are caught that is.

you can't do anything about it. Older BB can get away with it but the fact is that if you want MMS with a PDA phone and a BB phone, you need the data package. Trust me, I have talking a lot of calls about this issue. No way around it really. Unless you found some weird way of hacking it, but that will void out any warranty.

You can call in with some low grade phone that takes media net packages and then place on the $5 1mb data plan, then you can get MMS on most likey. Just leave the ****ty phone on out systems and then just use your BB. But not saying it will cause issues like MMS might not work or you might have call issues or text issues.

You can do this, but then it becomes complicated if you have a warranty issue or any support issues. Either way, if it gets caught it will be "fixed".

As stated in other parts of this thread, you CAN get MMS on the BlackBerry without the BIS or BES plan. If you can somehow get one of the media packages on it, it will work (like 1MB Mnet, MEdia Basic, MEdia Works, etc) it will enable the MMS profile.

The other way to do it JUST pay per use, is the add the BIS plan on the BlackBerry for a moment. Wait for the service books to update and then attempt to send an MMS. Once it goes through, delete the BIS plan and then add MEdia Net PPU. It will allow MMS through with just pay per use, as it has the MMS service book and it won't charge you at all for the plan because it was taken off the same day it was added on.

Kind of reaffirms my suspicions that it was something to do with the Blackberry.
Also because I've got the Q9h and I was able to surf the net just fine with my pay-per-use data plan.

thats because in the system it is marked that you have another device. Call in anf update and you have a huge chance that the package you have will be gone. You are lucky though.

No the IMEI is listed on the account as being a Blackberry Curve. It has to be as I use the free PTT on the ERP line as well.
