OH GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope it is JUST a rumor. I have more agent mess ups from walmart then any where. They promise things that are just not true. It has already been a mess with having Apple involved with activations... (believe me telling customers to start new lines and cancelling their current contracted lines, telling customers deposits are waived...) That was just all in one day.

my favorite agent error of the week from wal-mart is telling someone with the samsung sync they can access all of the internet for free... and then telling them that there are no phones with an FM radio... when they had the White W580i sitting right next to the SYNC. The customer I had was irate. They do alot of physical work outs and wanted a phone where they can access the radio off of it...the wal-mart rep was probably trying to sell as many sync's as possible to get them out of inventory... and come to find out they sold the customer a model that was recalled because of dropped calls. LMAO!!!!!!

This is my opinion:

Apple doesn't make a ton of money on services, they want people in their stores. They want you buying Macs, Apple Care, Apple accessories for your iMacs, etc.

Best Buy probably agreed to buy a huge number of handsets since they are a national chain and it was worthwhile to Apple due to the hardware volume. I don't think AT&T gets to say who can carry the phone beyond their Cor stores.

Apple will sell their phones to agents eventually, when the demand is down, probably after they release a CDMA version.

Of course I could be wrong, since I'm just speculating, but that's how it reads to me.

I'm a rep in a COR store and I hvent heard anything on this, that surprises me cause we knew that best buy was going to start selling the Iphone a few months in advance...however you people who work and premium retailers should be happy you dont sell the Iphone cause our feature goals have shoot way up since the realeas of this phone, out of 90 customers a month I have to attach atleast $30.00 in feature revanue, thats $2,700.00 a month if I dont hit this goal 3 months in a row I will be fired.

WOW, being fired. That sucks man. I guess feature sales arent a big thing, I guess its the fact that we cant sell the iphone. Cause actually that would help us out. The activations. Features would be really nice, but its not cut throat.

you wouldnt get as many activations as you think, on launch day 1 (original Iphone) I had 5 new activations out of 20 Iphone sales on launch day 2 (iphone 3G) we had more people buy but less activations, dont get me wrong its nice having a guarrented $30+ feature sale but its hurting us in the long run cause of our goals being raised, and with the way the economy is its getting harder every day, in order for us to keep our Jobs and COR stores we will have to start selling nothing but PDA's with the data packages, which is very hard in my market

I have a ? about what you said about phone activavions. I've bought 2 phones on ebay, the N95-3, and Blackjack 2 white/blue, neither phones I've taken to any ATT stores for any activation, I just put my sim card in and I go. So what is all this talk about activation??? Is it just some gimmick for some stupid unneccessary charge?

With any other phone you can take your sim card out and pop it in your new phone. Iphone you cant do that with.

Yea most of the stuff that comes out of BGR is bogus and half truths. I hear problems about Wal-Mart selling ATT phones. However I never hear problems with Wal-Mart sold VZW, Sprint etc.

Maybe its becouse AT&T is less apt to help a person who bought there phone from Wal-Mart?

Highly doubt it. One of thetThe biggest reasons Best Buy got the iPhone is b/c of their newfound partnership with Apple - they are now selling Apple computers a laptops and in several of their bigger stores are even giving Apple their own little section - called something like the Apple Experience or something - that was probably the biggest reason Apple went with them. Apple's biggest moneymaker is not the iPhone, but their computers. So unless Wal-Mart starts selling Apple computers *doubt it*, it don't think they are getting the iPhone.
