Well, we do have people coming in, however in their minds, they actually believe that a cellphone should be a tax-free item...

Only in America...

Noone has really asked me for tax free but FREE they do want. I had a guy come in and say i have been with all for about 8yrs now and i think i deserve a free phone and i want that one right there. clearly marked on it $49.99 after mail in rebates!!!!!!!!!! so i explained it so he said i want get a phone today unless i get that one free!!

I've had that ALL week and yesterday was no exception. People think because they've been a customer for years entitles them to get anything they want for free. The general public are basically jerks pulling our legs. You don't walk into a video game store demanding to get a game for free because you've been a Gamestop customer for years, you don't walk into a Starbucks demanding a free coffee because you've been their customer for years but you demand a free cellphone because you've been their customer for years. People come in and say "I used to get everything for FREE" to which I respond, "yeah and you used to pay $1 a gallon for gas!"

You know, my wife and I pay Mobile-Exxon almost $1000 per month now and at least $500 per month for years. Yet, they have never offered to buy me a new car. 😉

You guys are jerks.

I have a Starbucks card and I get a free one after 10 punches. My credit card pays me cash back and gift cards based on my spending. I have a gas card that gives me free gas after spending a set amount of dollars. I free dent repair insurance from my car dealer when I purchased may car from them.

Some companies do offer incentives like free merchandise or discounted equipment for long time customers. It's not unreasonable to ask for something free from a company you've been doing business with for a long time. Especially since the celluar companies expect such a long term commitment. Especially on a cheap flip phone. If he was asking for a high end PDA I could understand.

Maybe your customers come in and igno...

ok ok good point in a way but all that free stuff you get from those companies is included in what you already pay. the car stuff is basically included in the price of the car i would know i used to sell cars.

And yes i can understand wanting something for free or some kind of big discount for being a long time customer but most customers expect that the second that they say "I have been a customers for years" that i will just hand them the key to the phone cabinet and say pick and choose whatever i have is yours not a dime out of your pocket.

I mean really it just does not work like that. And of course the customer is gonna ask for the most expensive phone for free i would do the same thing if i did not want to spend the money. But i...

I do understand that in retail you get some very unreasonable customers and it sounds like that was the case with him. I apologize if I came off as harsh. However, it just stings a little when I see employees of the wireless companies making fun of us "dumb" customers in a forum where those dumb customers like to come for discussion. It makes me feel uncomfortable going into a retail store and wondering if I'm going to be the butt of some joke when I leave because I asked for something they couldn't do.

Some of us customers do, though persistence, manage to squeeze a good deal for ourselves now and then. Please don't get upset with us for asking, even persistently, for a break. In our current economy we need every break we can get. I kno...

Heck I understand. I don't know how anyone can work in retail and keep their sanity. I'd much rather deal with office politics than the general public. 😉

That's greatness. A few customers are out there that care enough to at least give the salesman a listen.
