Potential ATT customer with some questions...

DDDDRRREEW

Hey everyone I will be leaving T-Mobile for ATT most likely...yes for the iPhone.

If I want to get a family plan and have one of the lines be a Blackberry...is there anyway I can avoid adding the 30 dollar blackberry plan and getting a different plan STRICTLY for e-mail only? No data only e-mail (and of course voice too)

Also, I have been grandfathered in on a T-Mobile family messaging plan for 9.99 for all lines. If I want to activate 3 lines to ATT do you think they would honor this?

I appreciate all of your responses...Thanks a lot. 🙂

The $30 Blackberry Plan is for email, when the device checks your email it is accessing the Internet.

They won't honor the $9.99 all lines, you will only be able to take advantage of AT&T current promotions like the Family Unlimited Messaging for $30.

I understand that's what the blackberry plan is for but T-Mobile offers an e-mail only plan for 9.99 a month...doesn't ATT have something like that? Like their 4.99 email or a Media net package...will any of those work? Thanks a lot.

at&t does not have an email only option for blackberry. it's 30 or nothin'! and they don't match any competitors plans. what they offer is what they offer, just like no other company matches anyone else.

There used to be a blackberry plan with unlimited e-mail and 5 MB of data that was cheaper. It isn't offered anymore.

The attachments use data and you could go over 5 MB for sure.

Then why do they offer an e-mail only plan for other devices such as Windows Mobile devices...I know I may sound repetitive or annoying but I guess I just don't understand it...especially because the Media Net packages include e-mail too... 😕

They don't...

Media Net is to be used with standard phones, not Blackberry, not Palm, not Windows Mobile. Even the Windows phones are $30 a month, it's called PDA instead of Blackberry.

Xpress Mail is still offered, but in order to use it, you have to have the PDA plan that is the same price as the Blackberry plan at $30.00 The difference is that on the Windows mobile phones and (I believe) the Treos, you can still access the Internet without the plan. It will cost you 1 cent per KB, ($10 per MB) so reading your email will cost you a small fortune without the plan. Also, if you are interested in the Blackberry, not only will it not access the internet and email, but you cannot send or receive MMS without the Blackberry plan. The Xpress mail comes ncluded with the cost of the Blackberry and PDA plans. The reason it is offered separately is for some the phones that you mentioned that are not PDAs, such as the KRZR and RAZRs. ...

Thanks a lot I appreciate your response. One more question... I called into ATT and the rep told me the 15 dollar Media Net would work for the blackberry but he couldn't actually put it on for me...? What's that about?

The Rep you talked to was incorrect. The $15 plan does not work with the Blackberry. The reason that he or she could not put the plan on your account is because the system is IMEI dependent. If you have a Blackberry IMEI on your account (which you need to have in order to do the Blackberry internet, email etc.) the system will allow the rep to only put Blackberry internet packages on the account. Sorry that the rep you had did not know this.

That's unfortunate to hear out of a rep. It can be done but he can't do it. I think he knew exactly what he was saying, I mean, if it's possible, do it.

Sounds like you are getting a huge hassle with AT&T... Why are you going to pay so much more to only so you can have an iPhone... you think its really worth all that just for the iPhone?

OH NO!!!! 😲 Someone has been drinking the koolaid again lol 🤣 . Granted everyone is entitled to their own opinions but I feel the iPhone is all hype. But I am not knocking you, if you like it and want to pay an arm and a leg to get it then please to your hearts content be happy.

IMO changing carries for a "phone" is not a good reason. I switched from TMo because where my job took me they didn't always have service and that is the only reason I am with ATT. The day (I know that may be a while) that TMo gets a broader coverage area I am gone from the corp horror that is ATT.

By the way there are ways of getting around the whole having this phone with this feature on your account. I have been doing it over the past few yea...
