I WANT A CINGULAR GSM PHONE

SCULLYBROWN

Oct 17, 2003, 1:03 PM
so i went to three different cingular stores today and none of them would let me swap to a gsm rate plan and/or swap my nokia 6340i for a sonyericsson t616. they i need to be with cingular for 12 or months be for i can upgrade. i dont wont to go out a spend 300.00 on the t616. i would rather switch to the new rate plan and get the t616 phone at a discount. how can i get around this, without spending 300 buck on a new phone.

and dont say ebay!

actually that might be the answer. Cingular wont throw any money at an upgrade until you are:
1 year -->out of contract
2 year -->3 months before end

You could call customer care and tell them you are really interested in upgrading to the GSM only and are unhappy with your GAIT phone. They might do something to help you out, it really depends who you get on the phone and how aggressive you are.

besides that the answer is ebay

In the Boston area, a new T616 (with no contract obligations) will only set you back about $250.

You could also cancel your current contract (for the $150 early termination fee, paying back the discount you got on the 6340) and start a new one with your T616.

Depending on your price plan, you may be eligible a month or two before the contract end-date. Check with a local Cingular rep for the details in your area.

If you cancel your contract and start a new one under the same social, you may have to wait up to 90 days before you can activate again. Just so you know...
