VZW New Rate Plans.... Does Cingular have a good response??
I have a friend who was always happy with Verizon, and 3 weeks ago made the switch to Cingular mainly b/c of Cingular's lower priced family plans.... and now that he heard that Verizon has more or less the same prices, (plus he could have a 5th line) he is thinking of going back to Verizon....
now if he knew for sure that Cingular would be coming out with something new, he would stay with Cingular..... so I really need help in keeping him as a customer....
[also my brother who has a family plan now with Verizon, with a plan expiring in 4 months, and was thinking at that point of switching to Cingular, is now thinking of renewing his Verizon contract, (to get the newer pricing) unless again he knew that Cingular had something even better ...

😢 I work for CINGULAR and just saw the new rateplans offered by VZW, and once again we have no new plans to even compete. Instead of these useless e-mails they keep sending us about whose in charge of what with the BIGDEAL merger they should give us some good news for our customers with competitive rateplans!! 😡

I must admit they havent sent us a thing about any new rate plans. They just keep telling us to promote rollover like it's a cure-all tonic to fix everybody's problems. A 5-line would deffinatley be a nice improvement. 😕

The new Verizon rate plans are nothing more than an advertising scam. They changed their rate plans to make a big hub-ub about them to get people's attention. Cingular's prices squash Verizon's.
Take for example a $59.99 plan.
Extra lines are $9.99 for both Cingular and Verizon, BUT Cingular's plan includes 850 minutes with rollover and free roaming. Verizon's plan only includes 500 minutes, and free roaming is not included. Everything else like unlimited N&W and unlimited M2M are the same on both plans.
So really Verizon just jacked up the prices of all their plans and lowered the prices of extra lines. Nothing special. Yesterday Verizon offered a $49.99 plan that included 500 minutes and now that same plan is $59.99. Heh, i...

interesting, i just accessed the site from a different method (vzw activation system) and the family plan on their site isnt listed.... Seems like verizon is going to set family plans, like T-mobile, rather than just add on lines like they had previously. I apologize for the confusion my post caused.

The plans I've seen are different than what you mentioned, however they may very well be market specific. Verizon offers 500 minutes at $59.99 for the first TWO lines. Cingular compares with 450 Rollover minutes for $59.98 for two lines.
The big differences are Cingular's no roaming charges and Rollover minutes. Their prices are finally able to compete with Cingular, but their services aren't.
Again, these are the prices in the Dallas market. If there is an area where Verizon offers 900 daytime minutes for two phones, I would expect Cingular to make a market specific competitive adjustment.

😉 Nope... no different in my market either(Northeast). The verizon general slogan is "unlimited calls to other verizon customers within the america's choice coverage area"... Cingular's is unlimited calls to any Cingular OR AT&T wireless customer ANYWHERE(46 million of them... the most). As long as you can get a signal... you can make a call for free with absalutley no-roaming OR long-distance charges anywhere in the US, Virgin Islands, or Puerto Rico. But the advantage of Rollover is what no other company will ever even attempt.

Rollover is cool for some customers but if they can keep an extra $30.00 to $45.00 in their pockets for more minutes they'll jump at the chance. Now if we offered the AT&T plans with rollover (we are the same company right)who could argue against that? We are sellin 450R/UM2M/UN&W for $39.99? Are you kidding me?! Yes, but when will people realize that it's not ALL ABOUT MINUTES. It's about COVERAGE. COVERAGE is the NUMBER 1 issue people would like to see in their phones. Not bluetooth, not 3d motion capabilities....COVERAGE. Cingular obliterates T-Mobile.

You've basically restated what I said with the addition of a few very obvious errors.

that is for a family plan which includes 2 lines, (but a single line plan for $59.99 comes with 900 minutes...)

But we are talking about Family plans...The difference is only 50 minutes. Most people are not useign exacly their rait plan. If you only use 800 minutes on your first month then on your second month you have 900. If again you only use 800 then you have 1000. If on the odd chance you use 899 minutes on your first month then you are SOL 😛. You have to decide how you use the phone.

OK, so for $49, you get 500 minutes with Verizon, with roaming. Cingular has 600 minutes for that same price, and NO roaming.

Its not like you will roam (with charges) with Verizon in the middle of the city. You roam when you are way way out in the middle of nowhere. I have never seen a roaming charge on my bill. I also sell wireless and have NEVER had any Verizon customer come up to me and say they got slammed with roaming charges. My motto will always be, roaming is better than no coverage.

it depends where you are i guess because i port at least 10 verizon per week to cingular for that reason. they roam everywhere except their store i think where i am. I DO agree that roaming is better than no coverage though.

I would certainly like to see us come out with an unlimited MEdia package, Spirnt offers unlimited vision, text and multimedia for around $20. The customers I have dealt with can't really see shelling out an exta 19.99 to get unlimited data and then just 1500 text and 200 MMS. I for one burn through text and MMS like a mad man, and I know quite a few friends who do so as well.

mid-February is the tentative next major change..things are already in progress. one thing that is already out there is unlimited MMS for $4.99 for the rest of the year.

Verizon's new plans, while better deals for existing Verizon customers are still not that great compared to Cingular's except on the low end plan where you get 50 more minutes for the same price. What Verizon has done is to create new minute/price point combinations that make it more difficult to compare plans. When you compare the cost per minute for the price of two lines you will find that Cingular is still a better bargain once you get above the lowest price plan. At the 79.99 price point you pay $10 for 150 extra minutes (79.99 for 1000 min vs 69.98 for 850 min)but for another $10 (89.9😎 Cingular gives you an extra 250 min (1250 min vs 1000).
