Cing Reps - advice re Sony Eric T-637?

I note that this phone was on special for $19 (2 yrs, on-line only), now shows at $119 again.

Since I didn't like the software & GUI of Moto's v551, I'd like to replace my aging T616 with the T637. Unfortunately, as a continuing customer upgrade, one cannot get it from on-line.

Rep at my local Cingular store said in November that the phone was not in inventory any longer. Is it logical that cost of this phone be going up, not down???

My only other target phone is the Audiovox 5600 ... not yet available, but I could buy it next week in Taipei for about $330. Advice?

I was also about to buy the SE T637 online yesterday but didn't when I noticed it went back up to $119. Does anyone know if Cingular is planning to replace this phone with another one, such as the K700i or K500? Or are those two phones using the wrong frequencies for Cingular?

You guys have to watch closely, Cingular constantly changed the T637 from $119, to $19.99, and it was even Free with new contract for about a week or so. Keep an eye out for it, they change the price back and forth on it alot.

Yeah, thanks for the hint but I've been watching closely for weeks. As for today (12-Jan) the SE t637 isn't even shown on Cingular's website ... ??

It is being discontinued and inventory is shrinking rapidly. The only new SE (Sony Ericsson) handset on the roadmap I am aware of is the S710, which will be considerably more costly than the T637 or the Z500a, but it will also have many additional options.

I am not familiar with the K700 but the Z500a is a good phone and is on special this month. It does not have bluetooth though but does have EDGE, mp3 ringtones, 3d gaming, and is a flip.

thanks, man. i saw the z500a in a store and it seemed a bit big.

i'm debating buying the t637 on either amazon or buy.com hopefully, porting my number won't be an issue with those merchants.

The Sony Ericsson T637 is available online for free, hurry while the offer stays, they'll take it off fairly soon, I can almost garauntee that.

No problem 😉 It's a cool phone, I'm sure you'll like it, I have one myself and I must admit, I love it 😁 I'm waiting impatiently for the s710 though, I hope it comes out while I'm still young 🙄

i was also thinking about the s710 but since this phone is free, i decided to get it first. i can always upgrade later on. besides, my current 2 yr old motorola is really a piece of crap and it's driving me insane.

Ugh, Motorola, I feel sorry for you. At least you have some relief on the way 😁

Hey man, who told you that you can't get the upgrade online? Go to the website and log in, then click on "my phone" and then click "upgrade". If I were you, I would try out the z500. Unless you would rather have bluetooth than edge. I sold quite a few over the holiday. It's only 80.00 online.

I tried it before, just tried again to recall the problems.

1. the website upgrade assumes that I want to change my plan, but I don't. I just changed my plan in November to 1000-anytime.

2. the website "assumes" your upgrade must be for 2 years, whereas I upgraded at a Cing-store in November for only one year.

3. my Nov upgrade included a v551, but I didn't like that phone's UI. I lost the $18 fee, but I retained my "upgrade credit" for some different phone. However, the store manager said they would not be receiving any more of the t637 .... conundrum!

4. when I tried the web-upgrade again today, it shows me the entire list of 2-year plans, lacking the 1000-anytime, and offers the t637 for the terrific upgrade price of 119.99.

Tried yesterday and the phone was completely gone. Tried again today, with success.

There IS an option to upgrade the phone without changing current plan. Upon following that path, I was able to purchase the t637 "for free," including zero cost for priority shipping, I assume my contract has extended for two years, and they charged $17 CA sales tax. I think I'll also have a charge on next monthly bill for the $18 fee.

I've had the t616 for a couple of years - and I'm perfectly happy with functionality of the SE. Now I'll watch and wait for a good deal on the smartphone 5600 ... no rush needed. Thanks again.
