Cingular Rep Help: Porting # from VZW

RHPF

Nov 23, 2004, 12:26 AM
After my last post I ended up going to a different store and buying the v551 one there. I have used it for about 2 days now no problems, works just fine.

So I decided to go ahead and port my #.
Here is the problem, the Cingular acct is in my name. My VZW is a family share plan in my dad's name (but originally started off as a single person plan with my #, he added later). I wasnt sure if I tried to have cingular port my # if they would try to close both #s and he would lose his acct/number. So I asked him to call in and he said that vzw told him that I cant port my # because its in his name. Is that true, if I put in a port # request they will deny it because of different first names? Any good solution for this, as I would like to keep ...

to port your # they both have to be in the same name. You can ask to have you fathers account in your name or (depending on how new your account is) you can have it changed into your father names.

Well, I wish you LOTS of luck on this one! You can see my story with Verizon here:
https://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/forum.php?fm=m&f ... »

It seems that Verizon ties an account/family plan to a Social Security number; that's why they refused to do a name change in my case.
Verizon wanted me to sign a new contract even though I was month-to-month (and wanted to avoid a new contract with ETF's).

From what Cingular has said (and the reps here), they would have changed my name with no problem, by just changing the Social Security along with my name, and I could have kept everything the way it was.

You could always just restart your new Cingular account in your fathers name and hten do a change of financial responsibility once the acct is old enough.

FYI,

Verizon Wireless will allow ports in this case. If I wanted the phone number under my mothers social security brought under mine as a port then there would be no problem. As long as the Cingular representative fills in the information correctly, VZW will release the mobile number. VZW will want to contact the original owner of the mobile number first.

I've done many *different name/social* phone number ports INTO Verizon Wireless. There is no difference in ports OUT of VZW.

But why when my spouse died, was I not allowed to just change the social and name on the account and keep our contract, which had no terms then as it was just month-to-month?

First of all sorry for your loss, second you should of not said anything about wanting to change the account into your name. When a SSN number needs to be changed it is a change of financial responsibility. This is not a port situation.
To answer the second question. When porting started both accounts had to be in the same SSN. Meaning a child couldn't port from their parents account w/o first splitting the account and then changing into the child's name with the same carrier then porting to the new company, kinda redundant, why start an account with a company whom all you want to do is leave. The rules have since changed. Now with Verizon you can port in and of coarse out with accounts as long as all of the info matches. How do I know thi...

Thanks. 😢

I know now I should have just kept quiet, paid off the HUGE bill incurred during hospital stay, then signed with Cingular and ported. The amount was unexpected and I had no income, so paying it off took months! Verizon cancelled me without notice, and that was the end of being able to port.

Yes, you can port the number, even though the accounts are in two different names. Here is what will happen, after your local rep ports the number, in his portal it will say resolution required. Why? Because the names don't match up. Now all he has to do is call NPAC, and the repon the phone can manually push the port through for the both of you.

Of course Verizon is going to tell you no. The onlt thing I can think of is that your dad will have to call and change plans.....as he is going from a FT plan to an individual plan.

Wow Cingular is already reminding me of VZW (only they have reception and phones unlike VZW).
So I called in and the rep transfered me to some other dept, I gave the same story to him he said oh you need to call this toll free number from a landline.
Gives me 888 898 7605 I called it, and they guys said welcome to something Window cleaning. I checked the number and that was what he gave me, and it is what I called.

Any ideas???
