SIM card help
I'm about to jump from Verizon to Cingular, I think, but I've got a question about SIM cards.
I plan to get a Blackberry 8800 or a Curve when it comes out, but Cingular does not offer insurance on PDAs. I'm not hard on phones, but I do sail, so there's a chance of the phone getting wet.
Here's my question. If I buy a (cheap) GoPhone, can I swap the SIM card from the Blackberry when I'm headed out on the water? Then, if it gets wet, all I have to replace is the SIM, which has to be cheaper than a full-retail Blackberry.
Will this work? 😕

Yes deffinatly. I would even ask the sales rep that you get the blackberry phone from if they have any throw away phones. They might have one they can give you.

I had a customer drop her Treo 750 over the side of her boat. Her Boat Owerners Insurance covered the phone. You can also get them insured through homeowners insurance I guess, as I have had customers get reimbersed though this as well. But for your question yes it will work to swap sim cards. You can also put your BB in a ziplock bag and just use a bluetooth headset while on the water. Just keep the BB somewhere centralized on the boat and in a safe place, so it won't fall over!

sim cards work fine after they are submerged in water.

unless it's salt water

Our managers have been saying "No, they won't. They changed the technology and the sim won't be recognized". It's BS. It'll work-- the other option is to buy a cheap, older unlocked GSM phone on Ebay or something.

All,
Thanks for the help. It's especially good to hear the sim card is (somewhat) robust.
Now, if I can just find out when the Curve hits the street... 🤤
