Are there any AT&T (Cingular) dealers in here that know whats going on with the sim cards?

Hi i am a dealer of new, refurbished and used phones and i recently came upon some Activation codes for pre-paid but no sim cards. What i've been told is that the 64k sim cards are now working just in some places in Tennesse and the rest of the south and the 3G sim cards work everywhere. This was told to me by one of my wholesaler friends in Brooklyn but he wasnt sure what is going on either. Could anyone who works for Cingular let me know what the deal is? Thank you i appreciate the help!

I think he means if you activate one of the 64k SIM Cards in areas other than what he said, you won't get paid commission.

Oh sorry when i said i work for a store i meant a store that sells phones without contracts. Which is why im trying to find out if the 64k sim cards just dont have as much memory or if they are slower then 3G cards or all of the same, what i dont get is for all the people that have 32k and 64k sim cards they must have to go out and get new cards if 3G is the only one that works so i dont think that would make much sense for Cingular to do.

We still have phone on the market that don't work well with 3G sim cards, and require the 64K. I think your friend was likely full of it.

So does the 64k still work everywhere? Im guessing the 64k works with all phones. Is there anyway to tell which phones will work with the 3G and which will work best with the 64k?

The easiest way is to stick non-3G phones with non-3G SIM cards and give the 3G phones 3G SIM cards.

Do you even sell 3G phones?

That would be easiest but that would cost alot, because if we bought 30 cards and activation kits for 3G and we bought 30 of the 64k and we only sold 10 of the 3G then that would obviously get costly. So thats why were trying to figure this out so we have a accurate number. I talked to a Cingular guy today and they said that Both Sim cards work everywhere still and the only prominent difference is the connection speed. Does that go in line with what you guys know?

Oh yes and we do carry the Cu400, and the N75, both use 3G apparently. So im guessing it would be best to sell the older models of phones with the 64k, unless someone has advice to the contrary?

Thanks for your help

Yup, old phones like the Nokia 3220 will ask for a subsidy code with the 3G SIM Card but will work fine with the 64k card.

3G SIM Cards are about a year and a half old. If the phone was released in the last year and a half, the 3G SIM Card will be alright.

That helps alot thank you very much. So for phones that arent 3G a 3G sim card will work? Im guessing not right, i suppose that would be like putting a Hemi engine inside a Geo Metro huh?

They'll work as long as the phones are ready for them.

Cingular sells lots of non-3G phones but they only give out 3G SIM Cards.
