Warranty exchange, how to get a different model?

mgreenbaum

My Samsung sgh-a707 crapped out after 4 months of light use. It won't place or recieve calls or messages.

I called the warranty exchange and they're sending me a new one, however I don't want this to happen again, I'd rather have a different phone.

Is there anything I can do to get another model? Can I bring the unopened new phone (they're sending me the WHOLE PACKAGE) to a cingular store and exchange it for soemthing else?

Thanks for your help.

No, the only way to get a different phone would have been at the time you were on the phone with the XBM dept... If you continue to have the same problem with your SYNC, then on the third exchange they will either ask you for WHATEVER device you would like to have, or they will send you into a COR store to pick out any device...

Next time you call though if its not your third time, you can get them to exchange it for something equivalent usually. I would try for the v3xx.

When you get a phone, you sign a contract. You know when you get it that you will have it for 2 years. Yes, sometimes they stop working or have issues, but just because your first phone stops working, does not mean that that all of those models will. If you really want another model of phone you have other options:

1. BUY IT!!!! Either do an early upgrade or buy it at the no contract price. Or even go to eBay and get it.

2. LIVE WITH IT!!! Again, you signed up knowing that you would have that phone for 2 years. Maybe not that EXACT phone, but that model.

And before you ask, NO! Warrenty Exchange will not trade your phone for a higher level phone if you pay $50.

I am sorry, but I just run into this too often. I can understand your...

warranty will not send customers to a cor store to pick something out. NO COR STORE will honor this. don't give out incorrect information. if a warranty rep is stupid enough to tell someone this, they deserve to be fired.

are you sure you Know what your talking about?

If you have a device that malfunctions three times, then you are covered under the lemmon law...and you will be sent into a Cingular Owned Retail store to pick out any device you wish.

I'm sorry but make sure you know what your talking about before you shoot someone down.

XBM handles the exchanges, not the store. After the third exchange they will replace it with your choice of models from a pre-defined list. You can't warranty a 6010 three times and then get a Treo 750.

I've gone through this several times with customers in my store.

Yes I know what I am talking about. No COR store in my market will do this and we have a warranty call center in this same town and a few employess that worked there now work at our store and company policy states that a store will not exchange a phone for a warranty process.
And out of curiosity who do you work for and if it is Cingular what department and are y...

i'm just someone that has dealt with warranty issues for customers numerous times, and if they have had an issue with their phone three times, they always get sent into their local COR store for a replacement of choice.....sorry but whatever the rules are and the procedure that actually has taken place could be two diff things.

well i worked help desk for a legacy orange call center and now a cor store. If a customer was sent to a store and they walked out with a phone they either bought it or upgraded. But sending customers to the store for a warranty issue (phone) is a big no no.

Hello all,

I have gotten alot of info from here and I am wondering what the designated list of phones would look like after exchanging my C417 three times. I'd like to have time to pick a phone that I like. Thank you.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but why do you feel you should be entitled to a different device? Manufacterer warranty's replace equipment with the same equipment, if that equipment is no longer available they will replace with like or reimburse the cost. Why do you feel they should replace it with different equipment?

I'm always confused by how customers can insist that they will have the same problems with a replacement. 3ร‚ยฝ years ago I got a Nokia 6610 that stopped powering up. Exchanged it, got a refurb 6610, and that phone is alive TO THIS DAY. What is the harm in TRYING the replacement? ๐Ÿคจ

My answer to that would be this: If every single phone of that model had the same issues, do you not think there would be a recall or consumer alert? Sure some phones are more pre-dispositioned to problems (see motorola) than others, but to assume b/c your phone had an "issue", that every one of those models will come with the same issue, is absurd.

I wish we could get rid of subsidized handsets altogether. Make the consumer purchase the device outright from the manufacterer, that way if there are any issues with the device, consumer's would have to go through the manufacterer directly. Cingular is a cell service company. Let them deal with cell service, and let the phone manufacterers deal with the substandard devices they put out. I fe...

You have no idea how much customer appreciation for carrier exchanges would go up if they had to deal with the manufacturer with exchanges. I got an unsupported Nokia that had problems within a few months of receiving it. I called up Nokia. They did NO troubleshooting and told me to send it in for repair. So, I packed it up and sent it (on my dime) to their repair center. Nokia allows you check the status of the repair on their website if you have the IMEI, so I've been keeping an eye on it. They received it Jan 26. After checking it, they decided that they needed to send it to a DIFFERENT repair center (!?!) which took a few days. Then it was in queue for repair. NOW they're waiting on parts for it. I became impatient and e-mailed...

Nokias are good. My mom had a Nokia 5190 for 3 years and then the battery completely died on it. Like I said, I've had my 6610 for 3ร‚ยฝ and it's still running. I had one that died within a few months. It happens with EVERY manufacturer of EVERY kind of device. I'm not going to swear off Nokia b/c of that. Their repair process is horrible, though. Are you saying that getting the same model of phone for your first exchange is as bad as waiting at least a month and a half for your phone to be repaired? Because I can tell you, as someone having d...

Reread my post...this customer DID NOT blame Cingular and FYI NO they would not have a recall. Just like all these phones that are delayed some phones have to come out or it affects the bottom line. The same as a recall would do. Cingular is is a service company BUT since it is all about money they CHOOSE to sell the devices themselves...thus they play the middle man to the manufacturers themselves. So unless you own the company your wish wont come true.

Trust me, I know my post was wishful thinking.... American's in general have become to spoiled by the concept of subsidized handsets.... its an epedimic that the cell phone industry created for themselves.

The average cell phone user has no idea of the "acutal" cost of cell phones. In their mind, these devices are free or cheap, they don't understand how much cell companies subsidize the cost. Carriers won't backtrack on this b/c doing so would severely cripple their growth. Face it, a majority of Americans would choose a spotty network with, say a free Treo 750, then that of a reliable network and a Treo 750 at $500.

And notice I state the "cell phone industry". This is not just Cingular, its the industry as a whole. Europe and Asia...

You cannot exchange your new A707 they are sending you and get full value.

Now, you COULD find a nice local shop that would offer you a trade in credit. If indeed they sent you a whole kit I would offer you a credit, say $125, towards the purchase of another handset at the no contract price.

The shop could not guarantee the rebate to a future customer so they would have to sell it for $49 in store rather than the current $99 (less $50 MIR). In doing so they would need to have purchased it for the lower price.

If you were in West Texas I would do it. I am sure there are locally owned shops in your area that would as well.
