Question about the iPhone

Hey guys, quick question. I work for Verizon so I don't know all that much about the iPhone. My girlfriend's brother was interested in getting an iPhone because he wants to sync it with a Mac. I've heard that the iPhone will be outdated when it comes out along with a few other things so I'm a little worried he won't be happy with the iPhone. Are there any other phones that Cingular offers that have Mac compatibility? I don't know exactly what he plans on doing with the iPhone so I'm not sure what feature exactly he would need in a different phone. Any comments for or against the iPhone and any suggestions for a different phone?

Simply because it is not slated to be UMTS. We really don't have any details about syncing it to a mac. Hold off until we actually get details since you really don't have a choice. June is the earliest I've heard.

Calling a phone "outdated" b/c it is not 3G is absurd. Going by that logic the E62, BB 8800, BB Pearl, etc would all be "outdated". On the syncing thought, according to Apple it will be running off their OS, so its safe to assume it will sync flawlessly with macs.

uh... if he's just wanting a phone that will sync with his Mac then just about any non-verizon phone out there will. Here's the list... http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/de vices.html

I wouldn't call the iPhone outdated by any means.

I understand what he means. No 3G or TV capability. Voice Command? Don't know, but they showed of a BT Headset. He might be right. I am a Mac person and Apple is known for changing products 'very quickly'. You buy the iPhone and in a couple of months there is a NEW one available. $500-$600 wasted. Might be better off waiting for 2nd generation.

So that means another $500-$600 in Dec. That's what I mean about Apple. They should have held out till then. But if I heard right, you can't update a phone from Cingular till the contract is up without paying full price.

Her brother is made of money and probably doesn't care. Is there any way to confirm the re-release of the iPhone? I might just tell him to wait it out for a few months.

Didn't Jobs mention in the Keynote that a 3g version is in the works? And didn't that douche Cingular pres of Distro state that several more Apple devices would be coming out?

Yes, he did, but not when. Second generation phone might just be a software upgrade. Apple is well known for that. Problem is, you don't know. Very secretive.

No that's called marketing. Lots of companies do the same thing. They release one version of a product with full knowledge that in 6 months they're going to release a better one. It's just a way to make that much more money. If they just held off until they had the 3G phone ready than they would miss out on millions of dollars of sales from people who have to have it now. I can guarantee that the iPhone will be on back order for quite some time when it comes out. And if the re-release in Dec/Jan. it will probably go on back order than too. Just like the ipod nano. It came out in black and white and then re-released in colors... They could have easily released it in all of the colors to start with but then everyone would've got the one they w...

Gee, i wonder... You say you work for Verison, probalby the marketing department. I just spoke with Version customer service about the iphone, and as she attempted to bash it and thwart it's greatness, she suggested I visit "phonescoop.com" to see for myself. And what do I find? A slanted question from a Verison employee. It must be part of a Version viral marketing plan to shuffle customers over to a site "not owned by Verison" so they can see just how aweful this iphone thing is.

Funny thing... its nOT OUT YET! How would you know? it sure looks fantastic. www.apple.com

It's will most likely be as great as the ipod, infact it will be an ipod as well as a phone, a computer, a television. So you have been inhaling too much of your own V...

I have nothing against Apple or Cingular. I don't know much about the iPhone, but I had a concern based on rumors I've heard. I don't want someone close to me that's going to end up with a piece of crap so I asked this question to make sure he wasn't going to get one.

If you think this question is slanted in any way, you just misinterpreted my intent. Thanks for your helpful response though. I will be sure to look into your recommendations.
