Depending on the store, you may be able to buy a prepaid sim card that has service attached. But if you have a cingular handset then you can definately stop in and purchase prepaid service to use with that handset.

you can only buy a prepaid sim with a phone online, but you can buy it that way at a cingular store.

I went to a Cingular corp store in Houston yesterday. I spoke with the rep and asked him if I could just buy a sim card for the "pick your plan" pre paid service. The sim was free and I just had to call CS and set-up an account and the pre-paid amount was charged to my credit card. There was no activation fee either. Before I leave the country, I just have to remember to cancel the account so they don't charge credit card for another month.
