3G SIM Card Issue ?????

I wanted to upgrade - went for the V3xx - found I still can't get along with a Moto (even though it's a nice phone) - and returned it 2 days later.

Prior to making the move while visiting 3 different Cingular stores and specifically asked the question "will my 6230 still work with the 3G SIM card (so I can have a backup)?" A resounding "YES" from all three.

The 3G card DOES NOT work in my 6230 ("Restricted" error msg on phone) - and apparently Cingular can't re-activate my 6230 SIM card after it's been DE-activated. So now - rather than having a V3xx AND my 6230 - I don't have ANYTHING that works.

I've been to three Franchise Stores, one Corp store, talked to Corp Sales and Cust Svc (twice) ... and basically everybody just says "so...

You need to unlock your 6230

You need to unlock your nokia. The site above never worked for me when I tried to unlock mine.

The 6230 for somereason thinks the newer generation of 3g sim cards are non cingular thats why it says restricted. How about you get the w810i it is a great upgrade from the 6230.

Thanks for the input - I'll give unlocking it a try.

As for the w810i - I've messed around with it a little and rally WANT to like it but I don't think the keyboard will work for me. I really like the functionality it has but I would lose a lot of information in any data transfer that I would have to re-enter manually and it'd take quite awhile.

Thanks again ...

You could Bluetooth all your information over from your 6230 to the w810. And yes the w810 is fantastic and once you use the keypad for 2 days you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

I agree, I thought the small keypad was going to be a downfall, but it turned out to be awesome! I love texting on it. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I love my w810i

Thanks for the input - you guys build a strong case for the W810 and you're obviously fans of the phone !

Yes I could B/T data from one to the other but unless I'm mistaken (what the heck - been wrong on everything else!) you can only Bluetooth over one entry at a time. I've exceeded the SIM Card contact capacity by about 150 - plus I've got several months of calendar entries - plus Notebook entries.

All in all seemed like a pretty tedious, labor intensive task.

thanks again ...

Its all based on what your Nokia can do. I had the 6620 and 6682 and I could BT all at once.

I think the BT all is a feature of the S60 phones..some kind of backup or transfer utility from nokia.. I don't recall seeing that on my 6230s... But I could be wrong.. it was a few devices back..

I know there here in Oklahoma city there are about 3 different places that have the machine to transfer anything from one phone to your new phone for only $20, that would be what i'd do!!!!

I appreciate the input but is that Memory-to-Memory or SIM-to-SIM?

Everyplace I've talked to can do SIM card transfers but not Memory transfers.

For kicks, I tried my 3G cingular SIM in an old AT&T wireless Nokia 6200 that I had kicking around. As suspected, said the phone was locked or something to that effect.

So I hunted around online for like 5 min and I was able to unlock the 6200 in a matter of a couple minutes:

Use this site, worked like a charm the first try:

After it was unlocked, I popped my 3G cingular SIM into it. Bingo. Worked right away. Could make calls no problem. It was so slick!!!

Good Luck!

I was looking at one of the new 3G SIM cards and I couldn't help to notice how cheaply made they seem compared to the old 64K SIM cards. I remember the old one to have to work Gemplus or something like that on the back, but the new one don't have "Gemplus" on them... ๐Ÿคจ

Gemalto and Oberthur make our 3G SIM cards. I don't think they're branded anymore on the cards, but they each have distinct serial numbers. Cards containing a 4103 are Gemalto and 4104 are Oberthur.
