S710A Replacement Problems

Mr. B

Feb 3, 2007, 9:30 PM
OK have been having problems with my 710a for sometime now. Battery just can't keep charge. Have gone through multiple batteries to justify to Cingular there is a problem. Finally and out of the blue they tell me after asking me to look at some little blot of paper that has turned pink that my phone has been submerged in water and everything is voided.

What a load of crap. This phone has never come close to water or even sweat for that matter. So now no joy from Cingular and the Insurance I carried on it tells me they will not honor either. I wasn't asking for anything more than a replacement but denied on all fronts. So I am stuck with a phone that can make about the equivalent of 2 or 3 short (few minutes) phone calls before dead.

Take a step back and realize something. Every carrier has a mositure indicater on their phones. If it is red then the warranty is void no matter what service you use.

When we originally sold the phone it wasn't insurable so I don't know how you got insurance on the phone in the first place. Usually lockline will offer a one time courtesy replacement for the phone. I would call back and see if you can get a different rep. Make sure you are candid and just tell them that you were told it was insurable and you have been paying for insurance for the last xx months. Don't get short with them. If you are nice they will be nice(usually).

Realize also that even though you say there has never been water close to it they hear people(liars) say...

Well as for the insurance it was the store personel that asked me if I wanted to pick up the insurance and I said yes.
As for being polite I have been very polite with them I work in Sales for another type of industry but I know being an ahole won't get you anyplace. It wouldn't with me and I wouldn't expect it to with another company.

I will have to try the insurance people again but not expecting much. As stated before I have been on phone and multiple stores with no joy. I even offered to just get another phone at sale price with renewal of my contract and was refused on every occasion. I haven't demanded anything and have only asked them to work with me but no luck so far.

As for the water I haven't lied as this phone hasn't be...

Well, any cell phone company won't let you upgrade till you qualify. The rep has no other way to subsidize the phone unless your are elligible.

I never said you lied I'm just saying people do so if it is red the warranty is void.

If you tell insurance it has water damage, they should cover it as long as you've been paying your premiums.

Because it came in contact with the H20 molecule, better known as water.

It is litmus paper. It will only change when it comes in contact with water.

Now, I am unsure as to why the insurance will not cover you. That is why you have insurance. Are they telling you it is past 60 from damage date? How long has this been happening? The S710a has been discontinued for a LONG time so I am unsure how it would be under the manufacturers warranty tin the first place.

Please provide more info so we might help your situation.

I can't pinpoint how long its been happening but I had the phone a bit, about 14 months I guess. If you stopped selling them that long ago then the stores here in Katy, Tx were selling them when they shouldn't have been. I was not expecting the warranty to cover it. I had problems with the battery life and worked with Cingular reps on trying different batteries. All which I paid for 3 in total. Same results on all. I had hoped to fix the phone possibly. Finally one person asked me to look for this paper and color (which was red/pink). They said the phone had been submerged or in water which is not true. It is a work phone which is in a leather holder during the day on my belt and in the afternoon its goes on my desk till the next day.

S710a is still a sweet looking phone, you can always tell what it is from far away and is a pretty bad-a status symbol.

You should get real, MAN.

You would be eligible for an exception upgrade, 1 year price with new 2 year agreement.

Please let us know WHY insurance declines the claim. Just don't tell them it was more than 60 days ago.

the s710a was always able to have insurance. we would replace with the D807 , i find it funny that everyone thinks we will replace the s710 and the w600i with the w810i nope u get the d807. 😁

Considering the D807 is NOT an equal replacement it is common sense to question this exchange. Many customers have been able to successfully petition customer care for a W810 replacement.

If they provided a D807, Music Bundle and Memory Card THEN it would be a reasonable replacement. The terms and conditions of the insurance state replcement of value AND functionality.

If you are replacing the phone with a new unit it does not matter. You are sending a box. There is no reason why you cannot send a W810 box, which is a true and correct replacement.

Obviously it is not your mistake, but the insurance company is wrong in this instance. The argument is made successfully to customer service quite often.

I know, hence why I said it is your company that is at issue. But in your OP you said:

To say you don't know why shows you don't understand how the phones were packaged or their capabilities. The D807, as it comes in the box, does not do what the S710 will do, as it comes in the box. Per the insurance T&C, they are to provide a handset of similar value and capability. The D807 does not fit those guidelines, hence the arguments from many here.
