OK SERIOUSLY....... how sad is it that regional carriers (Alltel, Suncom) can offer Unlimited Text packages and Cingular cannot?? It's terrible. Also........will cingular ever have a "my faves" "my circle" like thing? Cingular.......please I beg you..........match your superb network quality with your offerings.........because right now they are COMPLETLEY UNBALANCED. โ˜น๏ธ

I agree, thats why I left Cingular in the first place and went to t-mobile. If Cingular offered unlimted txt, I would come back to them same day as finding out they offered unlimited txt. ๐Ÿ™‚ Although, T-mobile isnt bad, there just slow getting everything going (3G)

I really hate seeing people give up their plan, their phones, and service over texting?

I had T-mobile and i didn't like they're service, no amount of texting is going to change that. I see countless teens going to t-mobile for the unlit text and come back later complaining.

I've never understood what the big deal with text messaging is anyway. I can understand if you're in a situation, like a meeting, where you can't talk, the benefits, but to just waste countless hours text messaging someone when you could just simply pick up the phone and call them in about 1/2 the time is silly.

Free M2M is way better anyway. You speed dial a number, the person says "hello", you say "meet you there shortly", they say "o.k., bye". The entire conversation is over in less than ten seconds.

Compare that to the two and a half to three minutes it's going to take to "text" that same conversation back and forth, if even that quick.

I use texting like others use voicemail. It's more convenient to leave a text for people if both parties are at work, so that they can read it at their convenience instead of being interrupted by a phone call.

It's also handy (yet rude) if you're trying to keep multiple conversations going at once.

I'll also use it for international conversations. The $0.20 a message is usually much cheaper than the international long distance charge.

Texting DOES have it's benefits, as I pointed out. What is crazy though is the misuse of it by teenagers and others. That was really my point. Why text back and forth with someone when calling them is free and quicker?

Group PTT coversations also will allow multiple participants. Also a premium service, though.

Because less than 1% of the people who cancel service with Cingular do so b/c of Cingular not having an unlimited text package. Its actually about .6%. Thats why. I posted a similar response about Alltel's "my circle". Those guys have to offer that stuff, because if you have Verizon or Cingular, or even Sprint, you're going to be able to call a lot more people for free than T-Mobile or Alltel.

I know about 40 people with Sprint/Nextel. I know 40 with Verizon. I know 20 with Cingular. You know how many I know with Alltel? Zip! Nada! I know maybe three folks with T-Mobile.

Yeah, when you consider that you won't have anyone to call on those other carriers, you're gonna need something else to fill in the gap.

OK, do people really not understand this ๐Ÿ™„ ? If you have a large company (Cinggy, VZW, whatever) you don't need to give away everything for free. The big companies will get their adds because of their coverage and/or reputation.

Smaller companies (Alltel, Suncom, etc.) have to come up with a reason for people to want to be on their limited network ( ๐Ÿ˜ฒ unlimited text, etc).

As for "My Faves" "My Circle" and all that crap: No Cingular will never come out with any of that nonsense. Thanks for asking though.

Cingular offers 3000 text/picture/video/instant messages for $19.99. That would be 1 message every 15 minutes for the entire day. If people are texting more than that, they need to get a life ๐Ÿ™‚

That was just an example. I would not break it down like that any other time. I'm just saying, many people don't NEED unlimited. They just want to be able to say they have it. (See the custies with 45,000 rollover minutes that would rather cancel svc. than lose their rollover)

I understand that there are many people that would benefit from unlimited, and I hope Cingular comes out with that plan.

You should take that chip off your shoulder. ๐Ÿ™„

I think the point of his post was that most customers don't need unlimited. If Cingular were to offer it at $24.99 or higher it would sell simply because of the term unlimited. Thats all they are looking for.

Please don't tell me about what large companies should and should not do. Are you the CEO of a large corporation whose business acument far outweighs that of your peers.

The big companies will eventually need to compete with the smaller players because their is strength in their numbers regardless of whether or not they individually out number the smaller regional players.

Again, I feel you lack the proper business acumn to discuss this without a good understanding as to how the free market system truly works.

I think you might need a lesson in business acumen. Here's how the free market system works. You are in it to make money. Cingualr and Verizon are making tons of money by banking on their reliable network, new handsets, and reputations. Take a look at both of their 4th quarter results. Cingular quadrupled their profit from the same period last year and Verizon's was up 16% from the same quarter last year. Why would you change that? Business acumen would dictate if you are experiencing unmatched growth and reducing churn, why change? Other companies must offer free this - circle that b/c they don't have the quality of network or reputation.

Why would you feel the big companies would have to compete with the smaller ones? Both big c...

2 main reasons.
1. Coverage map. Cingular wants one coverage map for all services offered.
2. Cost. The company wants to be profitable. Excessive text messaging on a roaming partner would be very costly. Until they find a way to make unlimited text profitable, they won't.

What do you mean by "for less than Cingy"? There is no comparison. Cingy doesn't offer unlimited text thus it can't be for less than Cingy. Cingular does offer 3000 messages for $19.99. VZW's unlimited in +2500 is $25. That would make it more than Cingulars top data plan. ๐Ÿคจ
