Nokia 6820

Has anyone used the Nokia 6820? This looks like an awesome phone. Seems to really be an upgrade from the Nokia 6800. My 6800 crashes on me a bunch.

avita81 - How did you get to order one in advance? Ebay? It is going for around $435 on Ebay and I wonder how it will compare to a $450 Treo 600. Is this on an OS platform, and if not will it be upgradable? Please let me know how this one works for you.

It is pretty nice. There are some annoyances, which I noted in this article:

https://www.phonescoop.com/articles/nokia_nyc_2003/i ... »

...most notably:

1. It's hard to open. There's nothing to catch your finger or fingernail on, so you have to pry it open using both hands.

2. It doesn't lock in the open position like the 6800/6810.

3. Also, the backlighting on the text keyboard is uneven.

I don't understand why the 6820 is a step backward from the 6800 in these areas, but at least it's pretty sweet otherwise. Very small. 😎

Rich - Thanks for your review. How do you think this measures up to the Treo 600? And how much do you think AT&T will charge for this phone when it is released by Nokia?

I don't think there's much comparison with the Treo 600. It depends on your planned use. I don't see much overlap where either device would be fine for the same person.

The Treo 600 is a full PDA with a large display. If you plan to do serious e-mail on the road more than once a week, you should definitely get something like the Treo.

The 6820 is more like the ultimate SMS phone - but not as great for longer messages like email because of the small display. It's also not a full PDA, so if you keep your complete daily schedule on your device, the 6280 might not cut it. The 6820 might be okay for someone who needs to do email on the go once or twice a month, at most. But I think it would be frustrating much more often than that - mostly ...

Thanks Rich. I am really torn on this, but at the end of the day I am looking at it from a phone perspective and PDA second. The small size is really appealing.

Okay - the 6820 is definitely the smallest thing out there with a full keyboard like that.

But make sure you check out the Treo 600 in person before you decide - it's a lot smaller then it looks, if you've only seen it in photos. I don't know a single unhappy Treo 600 owner. 🙂
