everyone seems to think that cingular is looking to BUYOUT attws or tmobile. Why are people not realizing the difference. cingular wants to merger with them, they could not afford to buyout attws. large companies buyout smaller companies, they merger with ones that are similar insize. do they not realize cingular could not afford to BUYOUT attws, their worht prett much as much as they are

Agree with ya pumpkin! Sounds like "merger" talks between att and cingular are buzzing around... ideal partnership since they already share their network in some places. Roadrunner. Guess we'll see what happens! 😎

Actually, smaller companies buy larger companies all the time. Look at AOL-TimeWarner.

I have no idea what is going to happen, but if Cingular wants to buy ATTWS and can cobble together a deal that is attractive to stockholders, it could certainly happen.

But it may be that the finances of all these wireless carriers is in such bad shape that the debt load would just be too much.

Maybe we are headed toward one or two big GSM carriers (out of T-M, ATTWS and Cingular) and a couple of big CDMA carriers (SPCS & Verizon) who will slug it out to see who is left standing. We could end up with basically two options in many areas if consolidation continues.

That Was A Merge, Not A Buy-Out, Do Your Research...

Only reason they eventually they changed the name from AOL-TimeWarner to just Time Warner, was because of AOL's reputation...

Relax. I've done enough homework in my lifetime.

Whatever you care to call it, AOL was in control. AOL took advantage of its widely overvalued stock and took over Time Warner.

Anyway, the whole point is that a "smaller" company can buy out a bigger one. It happens quite a bit. The way ATTWS is going, the stockholders might be happy to see someone make them an offer.

I raelly didn't see any big defference, or am I missing some huge area?

There are some huge differences in networks if just depends where you are looking. On the the coasts there is not going to be much differences but if you look in the central parts of the country Cingular has coverage in some areas ATT doesn't and ATT has some where Cingular doesn't if they were to merge I think it would be good for customers, because it would greatly increase the coverage for both companies especially for GSM coverage. I just hope if they do they are honest about their maps unlike what I hear from Verizon customers around here.
