ATT in NYC area

This may be a bit redundant, but I am looking into switching to ATT from Verizon. I am very happy with Verizon service but their phones are severely lacking. I had ATT some years ago and don't have fond memories of the quality of service or customer service. I want a gsm phone, and as far as I can tell ATT is the leading provider in the NYC area. I travel quite a bit, both in the States and abroad but at this point I am mainly concerned with the quality and reliability of service here -- dropped calls, clarity, etc.

I know there were some threads posted earlier on this topic, but was looking for some up to date information and reviews. Hopefully the service has improved.

Thanks in advance,
Zoidy

Honestly, I'd go with Cingular, since they're obtaining AT&T Wireless anyway...

Yeah, go with Cingular if you want to have no GSM coverage for the next year until the merger happens...IF it happens...

Cingular and GSM don't mix...if you want GSM, especially along the east coast and in NYC...AT&T is the only way to go.

I listened to you guys about ATT having the best service in the NYC/NJ area, and took ATT up on their 30 day trial. Well, I didn't find that at all. ATT had the same signal strength as my Tmobile, and at many times worse. At my house no signal at all (Tmobile has full signal at my house), and it is supposed to be in a good signal area, Summit Area of NJ. Also, I have a friend who has Cingular, and if ATT is so good in NJ/NYC area, why does he roam on Tmobile while in NJ/NYC?

I returned the phone and cancelled the ATT service. I did not find it any better.

ummm if its gsm you use TMobile, ATT Wireless and Cingular's towers so there may be an issue with the equipment.
