Canada Gov't

So the Liberals budget passed? Comments?? Aside from the fact that it was propped up by the communists of the NDP. (My bias slips sometimes)

Yeah, if that woman hadn't jumped ship the budget probably would not have passed.

Doesn't make sense to me, since we don't vote for an MP, we vote for the government. I think that if someone is going to switch political parties like that, they should be forced to run another election in the riding they are from, instead of supporting the party that constituents did not vote for.

Or in otherwords, Dammit,I hate the liberals.

Keep in mind that you are not supposed to be voting for a party but for the individual member. They are your representative, not the government. I still hate Belinda. She is a political whore.

Would you prefer the conservatives get in there and screw around with everything? they would take our country back to the turn of the century (last century, that is) and our whole country would be inflicted with the narrow-mindedness that we already suffer from the alberta government!

Whoa there inflammatory! Somehow I think that you are a counter-cultural individual with no real recognition of what the conservative party, or any party for that matter, actually does. Party politics are a pleasant distraction from the fact that you are voting for a wolf, but all the wolves are from the same pack.

Next time you invoke the rally cry of the sanctimonious, you might try examining history and I think you will be sad to discover that our country, whether we have a Liberal government or Conservative, things have been relatively the same. Always. The gummint is ...

I may not always like the Liberals, however, I am happy the budget passed because there are several key issues they have to address, primarily same-sex marriage, because if the conservative idiots win then it will never surface again.

Yeah that is one of the issues that I was hoping the Liberals would not be able to get too, along with marijiuana decriminalization, spending crazily on social issues, not paying down our debt, stealing our tax dollars. But now we have to sit back and watch all of that happen.

I just want the tactic of personal attacks to be left to the adolescents. I watched Layton and Martin exchange words via the Speaker for over 20 minutes, and it was all about who did what. If we continue to support any government that is so hopelessly burdened by beaureaucracy that it needs to spend its time allotting responsibility for past transgressions, we will never proceed. That way lies our fate, methinks, and I shudder to think of all the citizens of this vast and modest country picking sides, voraciously attacking the 'others', when it is in fact the entire clotted clout of government that led to these blessed times. Our leaders are like childhood lovers, affectionately walking among each other, and showing their passion by shoving,...

Trying to pay attention to the news and politics gives me a headache.
I've completely given up.
I don't read the newspaper, watch the news, or listen to news on the radio.
I'm completely cut off, and know only what others talk about.
All I know is that there's a sponsorship dealie... millions of dollars.. someone's pushing for another election... budget needs to be passed.. something about lots of money on our missile defense, or whatever... I stopped listening there.
I'm a horrible canadian. I just can't listen to it anymore.

152-153 including the speaker of the house (a Liberal) who broke the tie. First time in Canada's history the tie breaking vote was in the hands of the speaker. (very exciting)

Paul martin could go on record as being in favour of drowning puppies and strangling kittens, He still isn't Steven Harper and the Liberals, as corrupt as they are, are still not the reform hijacked conservative party.

The thing is that Paul Martin could do all of these things, as long as he kept up the fear mongering and advises people the Conservatives are evil.
Their written down polices are not that socially conservative (compared to what people are saying). The party has fiscal conservatives as well, and have not had a chance to govern. I agree with you that Harper is a twit and perhaps makes the party seem worse.

Conservatives are Evil. Stephen Harper is Evil. the reform party was Evil.the Liberals are merely evil. As long as the PC's are big E, the Liberals will have enough juice to threaten the country into voting for them.

I'm not evil, I just like money in my pocket. Hate people ripping off of the system. Want a better future. Want to see the country grow and prosper. Not evil in my eyes, and I know the Liberals cant do it. Parties are what you make them, they are made of the people that are part of them. If alot of middle of the road people joined the conservatives the party would shift that way.

unfortunately most of the Conservative party is made up of reactionary zombies or xenophobic bigots, the hard working social darwinists and idealistic randian objectivists make up a non vocal minority.

Well I think its about time you packed your bags Harper, because the government, amidst scandals and lies, still chose to stay with the devil they know instead of releasing your bigoted, self-righteous party on our great diverse country.

It came close, frankly too close, but a 152-152 vote broken with an additional tie breaker vote from the Liberal house speaker Peter Milliken, and secured the government from a thrashing by the conservatives.

Thank you Belinda Stronach, without you, we can all imagine how this would have ended up. This thanks is also extended to Chuck Cadman, the suddenly infamous independent MP from Surrey, who kept everyone on the edges of their seats before announcing his approval of the liberals budget. And I sup...
