Question about unlocking
If I were to buy a phone on ebay, would an att wireless store unlock it for me?
...
No. Most carriers will not provide an unlock code, whether your coming to AWS or taking your AWS phone to another carrier.
Keep in mind that unlocking the phone may give you voice access, but you could miss out on all the other features like data.
While you're on eBay, look for people selling unlock codes. But, again, remember that you could miss out on things your new plan provides by having a phone that will not accept those things because it is unlocked.

If you are on AT&T Wireless with a GSM plan, you would only need to stick your sim card in and go... presuming this phone is ATTWS. If you are currently on TDMA, you would need to migrate your service to GSM in order to use your phone.

(according to what we were told in training on Friday)

And, be careful to read everything on the description. Sometimes, they will tell you that you are bidding on instructions on how to get a phone for cheap... or they charge an outlandish shipping charge. Just be sure you know what you are bidding on. I'd make sure to find out whether the phone is working or not.
With regards to the warranty... The warranty is non-transferable and is applicable to the original purchaser only. Ask how old the phone is. Or better yet, ask for the date code off the phone's label. It's usually marked "Date" and is form...
