Can anyone help me get an Audiovox SMT 5600?

I'd like to buy an Audiovox 5600 and add another line to my account. Is there any way to do it? I've been told you can't have that phone with a sharable plan. Seems like some people have it - how can I?

Any advice?

They won't LET ME BUY the phone. They will not sell it to me. That's the problem.

Well, if anyone who works for ATTW finds out how to order one, please let me know. I'd sure appreciate it.

YES...I (as a CSR for AT&T wireless) will explain to you one more time how to get around this.

Step one

go to www.attwireless.com

click on start with phones or get started depending on which screen you get

When it asks you if you are a current customer you say NO...

it will take you to the list of phones where you pick the Audiovox 5600.

It will then ask you your data plan. You pick the 29.99/month mobile internet

It will then ask for a voice plan and you pick the 39.99 national plan (neither of these matter but i'm tying to make this user friendly as possible).

It will ask your for txt messaging package and you pick none. It will take you to the credit check and check out screen which you fill out to the best of yo...

Okay, so basically you're telling me what I've been wondering myself. If I get a single plan with this phone, I can switch it to a sharable plan, and keep the phone. Okay, I can handle that.

In general, if you get service, and then cancel, what's the policy on equipment? I've always wondered about that. Can you just keep the equipment, at the discounted price you paid? I'm talking about if you're a new customer, and then decide - for whatever reason - to discontinue service, but keep your phone. Can you do that?

Attws has a 30 day buyers remorse in the 30 days if you don't like it you can return it to the store you will still have to pay the processing fee if I 'm correct but after the 30 days its yours but if you cancel you will get the etf untill contract full filed

No you can't keep it. If AWS doesn't recieve the equipment within reasonable times (i believe it's 60 days) they will bill you for the full price of the phone...Accually i think they bill you for much more than the full price.

Are you trying to upgrade or purchase new service? If you are trying to upgrade then that is a little more difficult as you will probably have to remove the number off the account to purchase the phone and switch to a PDA plan. After that you will have to switch IMEI's and then go back to the shared plan and switch SIM cards. This will create a large number of prorated bills. If you are just purchasing a new service then just go order a phone say from the website or in a store. Don't even tell them about the family plan and put it on a PDA plan. Then call up to care and switch the IMEI to a regular phone and have that phone attached to your shared plan. If i am missing something let me know. Why are they not letting you purchase the ...

Well... the phone uses 1900 mhz only. Perhaps you are in an 850 mhz only area? Do you currently have GSM service?

I show them available on attwireless.com... in my area. Might try looking at the phones and selecting "audiovox" from the dropdown list.

Yes, I have GSM. This phone is tri-band with 850/1800/1900. I've talked with reps on the phone, online reps over the phone, and store managers at retail. It can' be ordered through phone sales at all, and can only be ordered online or at retail IF you buy a free-standing plan (not sharable) with a dara plan. That's where we stand right now.

Thanks for tryiing!

I just got the phone two days ago. I upgraded from my Nokia 6200. The ATT store where I got mine did not give me any problem. I stayed on the same voice plan and upgraded to the unlimited M-Mode plan. The rep at the store did not force me to change anything. So far the phone is great.

I'm trying to add it to a sharable plan. That's the problem. Is yours a sharable plan? Sounds like you have exactly what they've told me you're only allowed to do. A single voice plan, along with a data plan, right?
