Massive dropped call problems

I signed up with ATTWS about 3 months ago, as they had good rates to Canada. I got a Samsung E316 phone, and had a whole bunch of SIM Card errors, where it would ask if I wanted to send an SOS. And the phone would shut off randomly, and sometimes I would need to pop the battery to get it to reboot.

So I sent the phone back and got a replacement E316. I've had two SIM card errors, but now I get dropped calls all the time. It's so bad I consider myself lucky if I can go 2 minutes without a dropped call. The phone doesn't say dropped call, it just suddenly stops, and the phone says Call Ended.

So my question is, does this phone just suck? Could I have a problem with my SIM Card? Something else?

Thanks,
Erick

e316 isn't an entirely bad phone erick. samsung normally makes a decent flip phone. problem with flip phones is that they're proven to be less reliable and also have problems with maintaining a signal as well as non flip phones. i believe consumer reports has nokia as one of the top brands for reliability and durability. if you have to have a flip phone, check out the moto V220 as moto is the largest manufacturer of flips. It will be less expensive than the e316, as long as you're able to get a swapout.

I don't know if I can swap it, as I did the Amazon rebate. I had a Verizon LG 510 and had almost no problems with dropped calls. And my friends who have ATTWS don't have the problems that I do, so I'm thinking it must be the phone, or the SIM Card.

If it dropped calls due to a weak signal, that would be fine, but I'm in 5 bar land when wham, there it goes. Other times, it will go for hours without dropping, but that is rare.

Thanks,
Erick

deceptive indicator on signal strength. your phone could have 4-5 bars then all of a sudden say sos or emergency calls only...sometimes still showing bars next to tower icon. you're right, its a phone issue not sim issue. go to a store and purchase a refurb phone by nokia, swap sim to new phone and test it out, i think you'll be pleasantly surprised. oh and there's a 30 day return policy on phone so you're not out any money if you return it. hopefully you'll be happier 😁

Thanks for the info. I didn't figure it was a SIM error, but that was the only thing constant between the two phones (both E316s, but still). Good idea on the refurb!

Thanks,
Erick

Are you passing in and out of a gsm service area? if you are running out of signal, the phone will shut off without warning...

No, it's happened when I have been moving, in a good signal strength area (5 bars).
