Verizon Wireless unveils an iPhone rival
LG’s Voyager tops new handsets for holiday shopping season

Verizon Wireless Verizon Wireless announces the LG Voyager. An iPhone killer?

Updated: 7:53 a.m. ET Oct 3, 2007
NEW YORK - Verizon Wireless unveiled three new cell phones on Wednesday for the holiday season, including a high-end handset named Voyager that will compete with Apple's iPhone.

The Voyager, made by LG Electronics, trumps the iPhone by offering faster wireless Web access. But in a nod to the Apple device, which is only available to AT&T subscribers, it has a large touch screen and full Web browser.

Verizon Wireless hopes the new phone will attrac...

iphone also does not allow you to use your own ringtones, have to go through itunes, the voyager should allow mms ringtones to be used. Also the iphone's bluetooth is restricted. The voyager(as of most newer lg models) will allow picture, phonebook, stereo, video and music transfer through your bluetooth.

2 displays! full keyboard! high speed data!
Man i was waiting for the I760 because of the full keyboard and wifi, but $15 dollar for vcast pack is very doable if full html is available. Plus 2megapixel camera and at leaste one hour of video recording!

I am so excited I can't waite

How did we miss the high speed data and the keyboard...and the two displays!!! Our CMO is correct in saying this will kill the iphone. But I don't think people who paid all that money for it are going to switch though...does anyone else?

lg has had more and more profiles added over the past year or so? YOu can transfer photos, music, phonebook, you get stereo bluetooth, can send name cards, printing. The only thing that is really restricted is sending ringtones through bluetooth which can be worked around sending them through mms. Or I just bluetoth them to my sounds folder then text them to myself.

Does this question from you mean that the Voyager's data price will be lower than the Iphone's? Iphone's starts at $20/month for unlimited data and 200 text messaging. So to be lower would be $19.99/month or less. I'm already paying $25/month for vcast and vcast tv. And on the price plan that includes vz nav and unlimited messaging.

If you are on the premium plan the then VCAST should be included. You should only be paying extra for the TV service. It sounds like you are describing the premium plan.

Regarding the data plan pricing, I believe that everyone will be pleasantly suprised with the ultra competitive pricing.

Cool. What about the price of the phone itself? The Iphone's retail price is $399.99, from what was described earlier, would verizon actually sale this phone for the same price even with a discount? 😲 If so, that won't be a good thing. That would make the retail price of the Voyager, more expensive than the retail price of the Iphone(399.99)

That's an interesting point that you bring up. Let's see what rebates are offered, not sure if those were included in the pricing. I'd be perfectly happy paying about 250-300 for this phone. Above that, I'd be a little nervous. But then I would fork over the cash 😛

Yeah, $249.99 with rebates, I'd do. $299.99 with rebates, maybe. Anything more, more than likely never. At a price higher than $299.99, I'd rather get a full pda. Lower than $299.99, will allow for more sales.

1 more...no restocking fee if you are not satisfied with the product.

actually two more...you also have America's Best most reliable network.

Anyone notice the lack of att and their "fewest dropped calls"? Its because they are no longer allowed to advertise that.

Now they are tauting they spent 23 billion on their network in the past 7 years...

VZW? 47 billion...

Which do you want? 23 billion spent, or 47 billion?

Oh, and you also have award winning customer service, which will likely garner more awards by rethinking the contract extension idea.

How good does the iPhone sound now?

I wonder whey they limited the phone to a 2 megapixel camera. It's like they're responding to the iPhone instead of trying to outdo it. There will be a phone with a 3 megapixel camera out in Verizon's line-up so the Voyager won't even be the best in Verizon's lineup. I would have been happier if the camera resolution was higher, although I don't think I'd buy the phone anyway. No buttons make it hard to use while you're driving.

Faster speed is faster speed. Look at the iPhone, for example. Everyone thought it was amazing at first, then the Prada started to leak out a little bit and people were less and less impressed with the iPhone. I actually had a customer bring up the Prada the other day in my store which tells me that many more people know about it than I previously thought.

Tie in that logic to this phone. The flaws are what people will gripe about. If someone finds out that it's Rev 0 instead of Rev A, they will talk about how it's behind in technology...just like people did with iPhone being on the Edge network instead of 3g. Different speeds, same principle.

Customers like to bitch about buzzwords and the "latest greatest thing" that their tech...

Considering competitors have up to 5 megapixel cameras, it would have been a good idea to give this something more.

You can text on your phone by feeling the buttons. You won't be able to do that with the Voyager unless you have it open. I guess I'm just not that interested in it. I played with an iPhone (which is similar in principle), and I wasn't all that impressed with that one either.

as long as the camera is on par with the 9900 i will be happy, that camera was outstanding and it looks like they have put even more effort into making the camera batter if you read through some of the reviews with auto focus, cropping options. Megapixels are no the only thing that makes the picture better. I printed plenty of pix from the 9900 from walmart and they looked amazing, a 4X6 5x7 were just as clear as my cybershot in some cases

The 9900 has a good camera. The Voyager camera will be good also. I'm just disappointed they didn't take the initiative to do it. Like I said, it seems like they're responding to the iPhone instead of bumping up the features they could have.
