Look man, Who cares about the most desolate strip in the United States. Sprint is not even in the same league as VZW... and if sprint was so big and bad... Why did they have to go back under the wing of their parent company while VZW could probably purchase their parent company (VZ). Coverage wise, i'm sorry... VZW network and extensive coverage decimates Sprint... Not to mention... Sprint hasn't made money in how many quarters now?

Harsh, but I'd have to agree... I was on Virgin for a little while (which is Sprint's network under a different name), and I wasn't too impressed.

For example, at my girlfriend's house, which is less than 2 miles off of a major interstate, you'd often have to go outside to make a call... staying indoors on the Sprint network's usual 1 or 2 bars there often resulted in a dropped call.

Also, there's a restaurant I frequently go to thats smack dab in the middle of a huge urban area (the Silicon Valley)... I'd get dropped calls there too sometimes. WTF?

Both issues were completely solved when I moved to Verizon.

So y'know, Sprint can have all the great phones in the world- whats it worth when their network keeps holding them back? No...

I completely agree...great phones mean nothing if they're locked to a crappy network.

I mentioned BFE for a reason. VZW advertised that they have the biggest and best national network.

How about another example for everyone.

I live in Phoenix AZ. I would sit in my house and roam with VZW. Some rooms I only had no service at all. I had to go outside to make a call. I usually dropped 1 out of every 4 or 5 calls with VZW in Phoenix. No joke. I was always calling customer service for credits for roaming charges in my house.

My old Sprint phone didn't roam at my house. I only dropped a call if I was in an underground parking garage downtown or out in BFE (but just about all cell phones do that).

I don't understand the roaming thing. There shouldn't be any roaming charges. If by chance your phone is in roam it should clearly state so on the display. It sounds like something is very wrong there.

I went to Phoenix - Scottsdale area a couple years ago and had no trouble at all. I actually went from Indiana to Las Vegas, then to Phoenix, then to Southern Texas and back to Indiana. I had no trouble with my phone and had no roaming charges the whole trip. This trip was in a motor home and I used the internet via my phone in all those locations.

But... for the longest time, Verizon had in their Terms and Conditions that the roam indicator on the phone was not guaranteed.

One strange thing about his roaming charges were that they said he was roaming in Northern Nevada.

It's kind of hard to roam in Northern Nevada when your 50 miles from the Mexican border.

What gets me is still is that many people who sell VZ tell the customer that there are no roaming charges, yet the brochures say roaming is $0.69 per minute. Whats up with that.

Just so you know, I've heard this from indirect dealers and corporate stores.

I did forget something from my earlier post. The phones that I had were the V120, T720, T730. ALL are POS phones, as we all know. VZ kept telling me that I had the greatest phone on the market. I also was not informed of software updates or any other issues that other customers had...

Here's the distinction. I will warn you, I find this argument is a bit disingenuous, but EVERY carrier makes this claim, and you need to be aware of it.

There is NO roaming as long as the customer is on the America's Choice NETWORK. Its when you go off-net that the roaming comes in. Most people take that to mean that there's no roaming, period, and I know of reps who make no effort to correct this belief. Not EVERY carrier... Cingular charges absolutely NO roaming charges on their National plans, NONE...

In the US, PR, or US Virgin island ;) I've had customers tell me they thought mexico or canada was no roaming because they were told there was no roaming on their plan ;).

That's not what I mean... that's basically your Nationwide netowork like our America's Choice. We don't have roaming anywhere on the America's choice. If your customers go off your nationwide network they get nothing. Our's still have service, they just have to pay extra.

No. Our nationwide is not on network like yours is. Our is nationwide on or off network. So if you are on someone elses GSM tower you will still get service just like Verizons network. The difference is Cingular will not charge you for roaming off our network.

Nope... We do allow open roaming, and we do not charge ANYTHING for that... T Mobile does not allow people to roam... And our mobile 2 mobile works even when off network...

Only with your roaming partners which make up your nationwide network. That's the same as Verizon's America's Choice network. Verizon also allows mobile to mobile anywhere on the nation wide network.

Customers can use their phone everywhere except for the white which is just where there is no coverage period. The red and pink are the same as your orange... no roaming. The light brown are an added benifit where you can still use your phone you just have to pay the roaming.

That is not a true comparison... Cingular GSM is all digital coverage. Your map lists out AMPS coverage as well... This is Cingular's map with GSM/TDMA/AMPS coverage... with a GAIT phone... Still, no roaming charges. This map is more a fair comparison to Verizons. What is Verizons all digital map look like?

Cingular phones still do not work with companies whom they don't have an agreement with; therefore no roaming. You know this as well as I know this is true. It's either A🙂 Cingulars network or B🙂 a network in agreement w/ Cingular ( like VZW's extended network).
Of course there isnt going to be any roaming charges.

Both A and B options are available on the VZW network as well as option C🙂 a customer can use another network we dont have an agreement with. Therefore roaming charges incur.

Yes they do. But if you pull off of another network you get the roaming charges. Cingular does not charge for roaming on either the GSM nation plan or National Gait plan... it's that simple... Roaming agreements or not.

Well all those phones you listed are Motorola. From my experience Motorola phones are usually crap! lol I just can't figure out the charging problems. It has to be obvious to them that there is a problem.... I don't know why they don't come out with a new design.

I do the same thing. I tell all of my customers that the light brown is roaming.

My point was that there are many sales reps out there who are selling VZ and telling them that there are no roaming charges anywhere in the US.

Then I look stupid when I tell them that there are roaming fees if you are in the brown on the map. They'll tell me that the guy at the VZ store told them there are no roaming fees.

Or they just get really pissed off. Either way, I endup dealing with mad customers who aren't even mine. I don't work for VZ, I work for a dealer that sells VZ with a few other companies, but people always ask us questions.

I'd have to take VZW's side on this one. Sprint's network is HORRID. VZW is the best CDMA carrier in the states. Even I can admit that.
