and your point is?
Cingular 2.4M
Vz 2.3M
Take into consideration that this was the first quarter on which Cingular's network could compare with Vz's due to integration being complete. 😉

I agree, but honestly, should Trac Phone really be counted as "Cingular"?

Why not? They're still making money on the sale somewhere down the line, though it isn't as much as it could be.

Yeah, but it isnt really "Cingular" In my opinion, Cingular and Cingular "Go" phones should be the only ones that really count.

But either way its just a stupid discussion on a web board, so none of this really means **** to be completely honest.

I still don't get why people are so big on numbers such as total customers? In the end isn't it just profitability that counts? If I have 100 million customers on my network and make $5 billion and you have 10 million customers and make $30 billion who's getting the better deal?

Its the whole who can piss farther thing, size matters, its all about bragging rights, its the same as the guy who hits 80 homers but bats .130 but his team finishes in the cellar vs. the guy who hits .350 with 55 homers and 140 RBIs, and leads his team to the World Series.

The dude with 80 homers has braging rights

Why not? Tracfone is counted as "Verizon" in their numbers as well. Anything that hits a company with revenue is considered a subscriber.

Verizon has resellers, too.

61.1m and still #2 in virtually every category

I know I cant wait till the end of febuary when I get my massive profit sharing check for the great year in 2006. Verizon Wireless has authorized the biggest profit sharing payout in company history and Im going to get a 50+ inch tv, a nice bose surround sound system, and some other stuff.

hows your profit sharing check looking RUFF? oh thats right...

I'm not going to sit here and try to tell you that Cingular is perfect, like some people might. I know Cingular is #2 in a lot of categories. For now, I'll accept #2. It's sure better than 3, 4 or 5...isn't it? You have to remember that Cingular doubled in size overnight...something that nobody could expect metrics to do in the same timeframe.

At the same time, Cingular has and continues to improve drastically every quarter. Our churn keeps on getting lower, our subs keep on getting higher, and we're pretty darn close (like, within a quarter) of surpassing Verizon in revenues and profit. That's a big deal...especially out of a $41 bill...

What constitutes me as a "fanboy?"

1. I'm a very happy Cingular customer.
2. I have an economic interest in the company.
3. AT&T/Cingular has a fascinating history of marketing and business models.

I'd have to say that number one is the biggest reason I come to these forums, however. If a company makes me happy, they deserve my loyalty.

So does that mean that Cingular will continue to add less postpaid customers now that integration is complete? The closer they got to integration the less postpaid cusotmers they added, is this the new at&t? Is this because their customers are understanding that they don't have the best network and they can only compete by adding people that can't pass a credit check without a deposit??
Raising it higher and adding more resellers and prepaid so that we have more customers. The new at&t, the company that reports to cowboys with big ego's in Texas because bigger is better even if we are less profitable than the smaller guy.

Im pretty sure that will be the focus of the new at&t for 2007. I expect to see offers like the ones vz has offered for a long time (buy one get up to 3 free) I think these offers are what make Vz numbers to be the way they are.

Aren't the revenue and profit margins between Cingular and Verizon closing fast? Oh, yeah...

Cingular's net profit for the quarter was $782 million, an increase of over $500 million from the same quarter last year. The combination of verizon, verizon wireless and verizon broadband netted 1.7 billion in profit, I saw nothing in the press release stating that Verizon Wireless netted more than $800 million. Even if they did, for the last 2 years Cingular has invested significantly more capital in network enhancement and integration costs. I am happy that everyone takes pride in their employer and carrier - it is as it should be. But to continually dismiss Cingular's rapidly improving profitibility, metrics, etc is doing your own argument a tremendous disservice.

I don't know if you misunderstood my post, or simply replied to the wrong person.

I was pointing out that Cingular's revenue and profitability is indeed rapidly improving and that Verizon is likely on the verge of being pushed to second place (in that metric).

Verizon is going to be the next AOL. Does anyone else remember how AOL locked down their software and service? How they made you use their browser, their e-mail client, and make you pay more for that? Then what happen? AOL lost 99 billion dollars in a year. They are bleeding money and customers every single day.
Verizon now does the same thing!!! It is only a matter of time to when people wake up and relize that Verizon doesn't let them do anything with the phone and service they pay for. Then Verizon will go down in flams just like AOL.

do u guys understand that not everyone is a cell phone freak like the ppl on this forum? Not one of my friends even know that the UI's on Vzw are all the same. They could care less...and any of them who have bluetooth dont use it and if they were to it would be for a headset.

All they care about is a reliable network with good customer care

once again, thanks for the irrelevent information. AOL is not in any way comparable to verizon. People signed up for aol specifically to use email and browse the internets. Very few cell customers are looking for this as a primary function. Also, unlike AOL circa 2000, cell phones have already become mainstream. AOL was a typical entry point into using a computer for internet. As people became more proficient, they moved on.

I realize youve only been posting on here for a day, but if your going to post, at least attempt to post something that others will actually want to read.

Go Bears.
