I wanna be an authorized dealer...

For those shop owners out there; I'm looking into starting up my own authorized dealer. I went onto vzw.com and filled out the form and the response I got was "Send me your plan and I'll send you some information.", which is obviously not helpful. I'm currently a retail employee and I have some information from people I know in my area. (i.e. commission structure, insurance needs, advertising guidlines)

However, I'm having trouble finding out whether VZW has phones available for purchase or whether I have to find my own supplier. (As well as a few other things.) I looked into wholesale phones online and I'm actually better off buying phones at full retail from vzw!

As I said before, there are other questions, but the phone thing is bug...

You can purchase phones from VZW, and prices are usually about $20 lower then "Full Retail"

Well that's better than these websites online. Do you purchase phones directly through VZW?

If you want to have a RadioShack dealership, you can order phones from just about any carrier, including Cingy, Verizon, Alltel, Sprint, and several MVNO's and Prepaids. Don't get real excited about prices, however. That doesn't mean, of course, that you can sell all those brands, but that you have another source for buying what ever carrier you end up with. I would suggest anyone get into RadioShac at the moment, just that it's an option for a supplier. Take it for what its worth.

If you were in the DC Metro Area, I could help you. Hope you find someone willing to take you on as an agent.

I understood what they meant...but how can they expect you to write a meaningful plan with zero or very little information? I can blow smoke up his butt and write a knockout plan, but if I have the numbers all wrong than who cares?

First off, worry about the phones last.

2.) I am assumming that you dont have your own company yet, start your own company and incorporate.

3.) Go to Verizon and see if the will approve you to become an agent (took me 4 months to get approval), write a business plan and prove that you have sufficent funding to get started (AT LEAST $20k is going to be needed)

4.) find a good location, tell the landlord that you will take it, of course VZW has to approve the location first.

5.) go back to vzw and tell them to come out and look at the location

6.) If VZW approves it then you will need to buy the displays, carpeting/tile and make the store look good.

7.) Get in touch with a sign company and have them start working on a 65/35...

I've got a company already, I have most of the funding, I'm working on the business plan. I've already sent for the tax id. I've got 3-4 locations lined up and I'm looking into the insurance.

Why would you not collect a check for 6 months?

I know it takes 2-3 months before you see a comission from vzw, but you should still be selling accessories and whatnot to generate some kind of revenue.

I know it's not going to be an overnight success, but with my partner and I already in the business and selling Verizon Wireless service locally, we have about 3 years of customers we can rely on.

If you don't mind answeing one more question, why did it take 4 months to get approved by VZW? I know it has to be reviewed by a handful of people, but shouldn't take 4 months..

They said that it normally takes 2-3 months but mine just took longer, they have to run a credit check, run a background check (from what I was told takes the longest), then all the paperwork has to be sent all over the place for initials and signatures, it was just typical "paperwork" and getting people to sign it.
