Location "ON" affects battery life?

DoubleHelix

I just bought a new battery for my phone because the one that it came with (RAZR) would no longer hold a charge.
The tech at the store told me that If I was not using VZNavigator that I should turn location to 911 only because it would save battery life.
Anyone have an opinion?
I always thought I'd leave it on in the unlikely event I roll into a ditch off the interstate so they'd be able to locate me. 😲

Turning it off really doesn't save that much battery life, in fact I have never seen a difference. I do however feel that having location on gives me better connectivity to the internet and applications like vz nav. I personally keep mine on.

I have been told that they can locate you whether its on of off. You can't stop the network or 911 from seeing your location. Only applications!

That makes sense.
I am also someone who NEEDS to stop putting my phone in the charger when I see the battery indicator at half. I think I used up all of the "available" cycle charges on my previous battery by doing that.

lithium ion batteries do not have a memory. It doesn't matter if you charge it everyday. I charge my phones every night, never had a problem.

Explain why I replace 8100, 8300, 3200, 3300, RAZR, V325, V300, V551, V557, etc... batteries that happen to be lithium ion A LOT!!!

In fact, I have many customers who have only had their phone for a couple of months and their batteries need replaced because they won't last through a 10 minute phone call on a full charge.

LITHIUM ION BATTERIES DO HAVE A MEMORY.

it's not just the memory effect. batteries can only be charged so many times the average is somewhere around 350 times my service rep told me.

So say you have used up your 350 charges. Let's say you have doubled your 350 to an unusual 700 charges.

Explain to me how you can still charge the battery and use it for a 30 minute phone call still.

As far as I am concerned (having sold these great Lith Ion batteries for 6 yrs) they all have some sort of memory. Call it what you want.

Lithium batteries do not suffer from the "memory" problem that Nicads and Metal Hydryd batteries do. However they definately have a cycle life based on a number of recharges. After a certain number of recharges, that varies with the battery type, they do not fully recharge and they get worse every charge. It doesn't matter if it is 90% or 10% discharged when you recharge it. It is still one cycle life to the battery.
