9900 'EN-V' and NAM1 and NAM2

I was very excited to read that the 9900 apparently had not been crippled by VZW like a lot of their versions of the phone. A month or so ago I tried buying a PDA phone, actually bought a "Q" only to find out it couldn't support two phone numbers. Apparently all the PDA's had this function disabled for some reason. I was in hopes the 9900 would support it but we couldn't find any way to change numbers in the UI. The previous version of this phones does since my sales associate had one with two numbers assigned. Does anyone know why VZW is disabling this feature???? ARRRRRGH! 👿

The reason why you can't put 2 phone numbers on the same phone is because it tends to cause a lot of problems. Many people never remember to switch back and forth between the numbers (or even know how), you can't receive calls on both phone numbers at once and it's a troubleshooting nightmare!

The phones usually still have the physical capability of assigning 2 numbers to it, but Verizon doesn't really troubleshoot if a phone is set up that way, because it does tend to cause so many problems.

Actually that's simply not true. I have been running two numbers on the same phone through 3 different phones over 5 years with Verizon. It is a hassle for sure to remember to switch but for the large number of people who want keep their personal and business numbers on the same phone rather than having two phones it's a necessity.

For such a large number, I've sure never talked to one.

At just over 1,000 calls per month over the last 24 months I've worked for Verizon, I've now talked to quite a few people and not one of them has used the dual nam function. I've seen more people with global phones and those are few and far between.

I had one call on Dual Nam, customer needed help setting it back up after they replaced his phone. No one, not even tech knew how to do it. Kept blaming "billing errors". After that I had to find out the truth of it all. It's pretty simple, the only problem is you cannot OTA your phone or you will have to re-program the phone. So as long as the phone is Dual Nam capable you can have 2 lines on 1 phone, but keep in mind only 1 will be active at a time. So if one is on, the calls to the other will go to voicemail.

ive came across one dual nam. its difficult to setup and as stated, no upgrading cuz you dont wanna set yours up again.

from a business perspective, why use dual nam? id let the cust purchase another phone, get another line of service, and there is your "dual nam." what do you tell the customer? forward your calls.

more revenue.

so verizon knows there is an issue with their technology and instead of fixing it they just refuse to support it and their employees (im assuming you are a vzw employee by your response) just tell people that the reason they dont support it is because the custies are too dumb to use it. wow. just wow 🙄

I don't use the 9900 but I do use the 8600, I am not sure if it is the same but you can enable dual nam by selecting menu, 0, 000000, Dual NAM Setting, enable. Hope this helps.

It is not disabled on the enV. Go into the Service Menu (Menu, 0, Service Code 000000) and it is listed as

13. Dual Nam Setting.

Once you enable it thru the service menu, you have the option to program 2 NAM's.

I'm in tech support for VZW. Dual nam works best for customers who have mobile numbers in two different markets. More times than I can remember, when programming a phone for dual nam, you can run into authentication issues. As mentioned before, troubleshooting can be a major PITA, especially if you get a rep who is not as familiar w/ dual nam.

Call tech support, your phone needs the MDN (phone #) and MIN (mobile information number, which may be different than your MDN) programmed in. I suggest calling 800-922-0204, then choosing option 3 on the first menu, and option 4 on the second menu, that'll get you to pda tech support, who are more likely to be familiar with dual NAM functionality

You also need to have someone who is willing to activate an ESN under 2 diff MDNs. The system will automatically tell you that it's active on another line. Both CSR and TSS are trained to not activate 1 ESN under 2 MDNs, so you may have some problems out there. Good luck!

The last time I talked to a tech about dual nam, they were telling me that verizon is thinking about getting rid of dual nam all together. Reason was because it causes more problems with authentication. Even the ones that are set up the right way have a tendacy to have problems.

And do not try to set up nam 1 and nam 2 with the same number, that will for sure lock your phone down due to authentication issues. verizon's system thinks you are trying to use the same number on 2 handsets at the same time.
