i'm new to vzw...quick question

hey guys -

i'm new w/ verizon and i've been enjoying my coverage. i was just wondering does verizon allow unlocked phones? what's the deal with that? thanks!

No, Verizon doesn't allow unlocked phones.

Not always true. I don't know the process behind it since I haven't extensively researched it, but I HAVE activated an unlocked v3c. Motorola UI. Full OBEX. Everything

anyway, can you buy an unlocked version from vzw, no. can you activate and use one if you get it on your own, yes.

yes, bring an unlocked (GPS) CDMA phone and you can activate it on VZW.

do you work for verizon? so, i can take an unlocked phone into any of the verizon stores? haha sorry to ask you so many questions, but are there any good cdma phones out? all i can find are gsm unlocked phones. thanks!

Ignore him, if the phones ESN isnt in Verizon database it cannot be activated, while there are SOME Alltel phones that can be activated on Verizon 99% of phones will not work, just buy a Verizon phone

A new law was passed that says for the next 3 years all phones have to have the lock up software lifted. Not sure how that works but it did happen.

That's correct...partly. Must be lifted for the next 3 years on GSM phones. No law was put in place for CDMA. In all honesty, I can see the whole thing backfiring. I'd imagine that within the next 6 months or so, the carriers will put special software in their phones so that nothing at all will work with any other carrier with the exception of a phone call. Similar to the T-Mobile and Cingular media packages. They won't work with the other network's software

But it doesnt mean that the carrier has to allow the phone on its network, PLUS it excludes CDMA phone, the "law" is just for GSM phones
...
