Has this ever happend to anyone else?

I'll get these messages from premium message sites from a number like "267-06" which says is from the site enmob.com. (This is the one I just got yesterday). Anyway, I'll get like 6 or 7 in a row saying random facts about movies or some crap. The first one always thanks me and mentions the 9.99 monthly charge. I replied with "STOP", which the customer service rep told me to do. But she also said if I'm probably going to have to pay that $9.99 charge even though I didnt sign up for it since that company will bill verizon. that is insane.

Simple you just reply to the text messages they send with the word "STOP" no characters or extra letters. Just that one word. Within a few minutes you will actually receive a confirmation text message indicating that "you have successfully been unsubscribed...- from their services...

you either signed up or someone used your phone and signed up.

verizon wireless requires all third party messaging services to use a double opt in method where you have to initially txt them to sign up then also reply to the first message to confirm.

and as has been stated just reply with stop to cancel

MidnightDT is correct. It requires your actual phone to verify the opt in. If you know for sure that you did not reply from your handset via text to start getting these annoying text messages you can tell Verizon to search into it. The actual opt in messages are stored, if there are none to be found then Verizon can refuse the charges from the provider, hence you don't pay either.

On many of these sites if the prior user of you number had set up service with them and never cancled that service they will automatically start sending you messages once that number is restored even if with a new account number.

One of the ways to stop it is replying with the word stop but there is a phone # that my wireless data tech support sent me in an e-mail that allows you to enter in your phone number and it stops all prem sms subscriptions. I'm not at work right now but I'll send another message with the #. It's really easy and I have done it for several customers. It's sad but you can be charged premium sms without you or anybody else using your phone. There are websites that you can input a phone # and a e-mail address and it sends an e-mail for the 2nd part of the double opt in process and the person just has to reply to it and then you get charged. It sux ass but it happens. If you get charged for these services, just call customer service and we will cre...

That is not sad. It is purely and utterly unacceptable. I'm with Cingular and we just had this crap happen to us. I do not know WHAT triggered it, perhaps it was a Bot. I went to enmob site and their 'verification requestor' doesn't have a Bot-blocker.

I'm going to see if I can get more people aware of the issue and see about a class-action lawsuit. There are already many testimonies on the web about people wh...

Why would there be a class action lawsuit when there are methods in place to ensure that this subscription was intended by the customer?

But then again, I suppose VZW could just block those and be accused of crippling the service even more...and threatened with a class action lawsuit for NOT allowing premium messaging...

This is why I had text messaging disabled. I have no need for the service, but it pissed me off that when i did my last upgrade on July 1st of last year, the salesperson removed the block, and had to call customer service to have it enabled, after I learned a text message went through. I also filed a complaint against the salesperson for removing the block.

Because enmob does not prevent unsolicited subscriptions. We already had the $9.99 charge show up on our account when we called Cingular this morning. Fortunately Cingular will be crediting that amount back to us, but all this calling around is a real pain considering the subscription was entirely unsolicited. I don't mind the hassle of canceling something I originally ordered, but this is just plain wrong. Especially if the charge appears in full the very moment you get the first text. Not to mention texting them back will cost money, unless you call your phone company and complain about that too. At least when places like Best Buys give you a free year of some magazine subscription you have a whole year to cancel it and don't need t...

What ended up happening was I was charged the $9.99 and called verizon and no one would credit me..and i tried calling back 2 more times after the first. Even the supervisor didn't do anything for me.

so i emailed the company that charged me and said this is the last attempt before I got my lawyer involved. anyway it worked because they sent me a full refund within about 2 weeks.

Good catch verizonplayah. I almost always capitilize the word at the beginning of my sentences and add a period at the end.

Here's how anal I am about that stuff.

I actually remember thinking "should I capitalize that and add a period?".
