The Audiovox 8900, Verizon's 2nd (Technically 3rd) Camera phone will launch on 12/12/2003. The pricing for Verizon South Area will be $99.99 after $70 MIR.
If you curious as to why I said "Technically 3rd" this is why.
LG VX6000 was the 1st
Samsung i700 Pocket PC Phone was Technically the 2nd, cuz it has a built in camera.
But the Audiovox 8900 is the 2nd "Handset" but 3rd camera phone.
...
Depending upon how it feels and handles that will be the phone that I get... 🙂
...

I called a couple of local vz stores no one new anything about it. Also called 1800 2 join in they stated they didn't know when it was going to be released. I'm just looking fwd to getting this phone. Are they in the stores already and they just can't say anything or what. Thanks for the info Big Poppa. You always seem to provide good info.
Keep the info coming. If you have actually seen the phone how is the feel?
...
Well I said the release date was 12/12/03 so NO they are not in store yet, at least not for sale.
I recieved an email at work stating the release date.
...
I called a person at a verizon store and they called somebody at a coporate headquarters and they said that it would be comming on the 12th fo this month.
...
Does the 8900's camera have a flash?
...
Well... it was almost a perfect phone... now if they would just add and external display and speakerphone to the a-610
...
Here Here... The a-610 is going to be $150 after rebate and the 8900 is going to be cheaper than that... The camera on the a-610 is better than the 8900 but what are you buying a phone for a camera or cellphone..
...
I will still lean toward the audiovox. it has 2 or the 3 key features (speakerphone , external display)... Speakerphones are a must for those who drive manual transmissions.
...
Yeah,
I was very interested in this phone.
I was about to get the 8600 but i held off waiting for the 8900.. it will be out soon...
but i am looking at the specs of the motorola v810 that was just posted on phonescoop and it looks great... only a tiny bit larger than the audiovox 8600 which is an extremely small phone.
I think i am going to hold off until i am able to check out the moto v810.. it is tri mode as well... i am just hoping the quality is at or above par.
here are some physical comparison specs:

Looking back at post like this, in less then 3 years we have gone from a top of the line phone (at the time), and being happy to pay $100+ for a camera phone with speakerphone.
Now we can get phones that have 500% more features in them for half the price, I mean a stylish Moto Razr v3m with bluetooth, mp3 player, 1.3 mp camera, GPS navigation, removable memory card. All the bells and whistles are being sold for $49.99 right now.
What do you all think will be the "norm" in 3 years.
...
free Treos.
LOL just kidding 🤣

In all seriousness, phones like the Samsung a990 for little or no money on a new contract in about 3 years or so. 🤤
...
Maybe, but in 3 years the 990 will be a base phone im sure, I can hear customers now, "what? That phone only has a 3 megapixel camera and no video calling? why would anybody want that?"
Lol
