Does anyone have any date on when this phone will be released? All I know is that it is supposed to be in Q3 of this year.

I've been wondering the same thing, I bought the LG 8500 on Sunday and have already been through 2 of them so I returned it and am without phone now. I have been real happy with all my Samsungs so I'm waitin for this one instead of buying a phone I'm not going to be happy with for 2 more years! So please if anybody has some info let me know!!!!
Thanks

I bought an LG VX8300 but haven't even activated it yet. I like the phone but really am interested in the A870. The 8300 is thin, but it is a litter longer than I like. I know the A870 has been FCC approved, so I am hoping Verizon will get it out to the public ASAP.

I'm wondering if Verizon will ever even release this phone. I posted this link months ago, as it was originally slated for Q2 release and has been on this site for quite some time, yet no other info has ever been available.

the 870 had popped up in info manager for a couple days about a month ago, when the chocolate and 5300 first appeared, then it went away. honestly i didn't pay it much attention as all the more recent samsungs have been garbage. before the flames start I'm sure osmeone out there likes there 950 and 930 and 990. Its just been my experience that none of the people i sold them to liked them and always liked their sam 650/670 better.

Yup the 670 was the best phone I've owned and it broke the day the LG 8500 so I figured why not. Within 24 hrs. of getting it I had to return it twice. I was thinking the LG 8300 but my experience with the 8500 has soured me on LG's. Anyway thanks for the heads up, I guess that means I shouldn't wait around for that phone.

I have been told that the 870 will correct some issues some of the other Samsungs have had. I also was told that they have improved the internal antennea so that it will not be cover if you hold your phone with your fingure covering the placement of it across the top. I'm hoping it comes out in the next little bit.

I talked to a friend of mine who is an RF engineer for Verizon. He has a little bit of insight into the phones as they come out so they know out they will interact with the towers and the redundancy. He just has no idea when the release will happen. He was under the impression it should have already happened.

Was is supposed to have those things. I'm not really impressed by samsungs anyways but to me it looks like an 850 with no antenna and bluetooth. That is correct it does not have evdo and doesn't even have a 1.3 mp camera its only 300K

Aug 9, 2006, 10:20 AM
But an upgrade to the 850 would be a good thing. Especially if they got the who antennae issue corrected so if you hold the phone with your fingure over it, it won't interfere. Which to my knowledge they did. I would buy that phone. I like the 850, but won't buy it because of the antennae.

Aug 9, 2006, 11:41 AM
Yeah the 850 was ok but I would take the 5200, now the 5300 or the moto 325 way before I would get the 850. And hopefully they get the internal antenna thing working better because I know on the 950 and especcially the 630 the reception is terrible if you hold you finger over the wrong spot.

WOW. People complain that there aren't any Bluetooth phones without having to get a phone that is video/vast/etc. Now they have one (also the LG VX5300) and now this...

So they come out with entry level phones/mid level phones/high end phones and people think that every phone should be high level.

The only thing I find interesting is that VZW will sell a high end phone in the same price range as a mid level phone and a entry level for more then a mid level phone. I have always thought it would be easier to price them according to features, that way the features on the phone have some value...

For me personally I don't really like verizons new phones and I'm in desperate need of one. This is supposed to be a small clamshell with an MP3 player and 2 megapix camera according to mobiledia.com. It has everything I want and it shouldn't be expensive at all. So it may not be the greatest phone ever but it's the one I want and the Chocolate sucks big donkey d**k. I had to return mine twice within a 24 hr. period.

k. how many times do the specs for the phone have to be posted? it is a mid tier handset. NO 2 megapixel camera no evdo nothing. if you want those features you are not going to find them in a MID level phone. AND as for you bringing the choc back twice I don't know why, user error maybe? I can definitely believe it due to how dense you are still thinking this phone has those features when the true specs have been posted many times. go back to the choc and read the manual. just my opinion though. I could be wrong. 🙂

no snooze on calender reminders.hmmm don't know if i can help you there that is a new one to me. But The outside display is an issue, that is one reason i like the chocolate, i have no problems seeing it in the sun, the samsung 930 is also easliy read outdoors. The razr and the 8300 are hard to read in sunlight. You can use the samsung speakerphone with phone closed that is one nice function of that phone, that razr also allows this but that doesn't help you since you didn't like the design and you will not be able to read in sunlight. the samsung 870 will have a color display on the outside as well as the 5300 so neither one of those is going to help you with that issue, but the samsungs do allow for speakerphone with flip closed.

yup, that is why i love the chocolate, very customizable. You can remove verizon banner, animated wallpaper, set all shortcut keys, flash ui is sweet, allows you to have mp3 not just vcast music, allows you to set mp3's as alarm clock and you can put them in playlists unlike the other music phones. I would say you should really check that one out, but no speakerphone 😢 kinda of a buzz kill for some.

wow so you are going to pay $200 dollars for a phone with no expandable memory, no bluetooth, shorter battery life, and not to boot ugly as hell. This phone is not any smaller either, another one of your reasons for hating the 8300 and it to will have an antenna sticking up. By the way you are not going to be able to read the outside display in direct sunlight on this on either, and the display is much smaller. Oh well they do need your business though, maybe you get a good deal on it since they only added 210,000 post paid subscribers last Q. I just can't seem to understand your logic but to each their own and I wish you the best of luck.

They have it for $99. 2mp camera, bluetooth, expandable memory, mp3 player, speakerphone with it closed, the outside display is not oled like the 8300 so it will be a little better in sunlight and it really isn't much bigger and at leaste there is no antenna on top. man, what a pain, you just find fault in everything. I find it hard to beleive you find all of these issues with Verizon phones but can't find any with that sanyo. I couldn't live without bluetooth and expandable memory (on a music playing phone) You seem like the type that is never happy. Oh well, I just think you are crazy for using that on Sprint instead of some of the Verizon phones available. I personally would never carry that sanyo, if I had to have sprint their are better option, I would perfer the fusic or the blade, but to each their own.
