why would you want the 8500 over the a990 its such a nicer phone

I held the 990 in my hand and I wasn't exactly blown away by it. The external display is crap. the main display isn't all that either. I've seen pictures made from the phone and they didn't impress me at all. If I'm gonna drop 4 bills on a phone I better be impressed.

Exactly how I feel. We got 10 a990s in our friday shipment and me and a sales guy spent about 20 mins playing with the phone. Overly the phone is pretty cool, but it seems like the phone is more for a business professional who wants a really cool phone or someone who wants a cool looking phone along with a good camera.

As for the chocolate, I think it will be geared more for the youth market (which im in *early 20s*). With a cool looking phone and MP3 player, and new UI, the phone should be a killer in sales. Ive seen some of the display themes for the phone already and Ive fallen in love. The 990 has awful themes, you can only change the colors of the craptacular VZW UI. I havent seen many pics of the UI on the net, but only on our VZ ...

I would say that is wrong too. I helped check in the new weekly inventory for my store on Friday and we havent recieved any 8500s yet, we only got 10 a990s as well. Best believe when we get the choc in my store, i will be on here raving about it.

Ops in NY, we have not gotten it either inventory tomorrow tho so maybe! but i know the release date IS NOT the 31st, and since the release date has not been officially released it can be pushed back hopefully mid august is what i know, what pisses me off is this site that i rave to my cust. about to check out has barely anything on the fone.

sales rep at my store said Chocolate is most likely coming AUG 31, for release on ALL channels (net, store, etc). And we have a big 'buy one get one free' sign in the managers office for the 8300, 5200, chocolate, 9800. So it should be very soon, I will check in a day or two on our incoming inventory list for friday wooot

I stopped at a local Verizon store last night and talked to the manager. He said they will be for sale on the website July 31 and in the Verizon stores by Aug. 7. He also said Verizon has a couple more phones that will be in stores by the end of September including the Capri.

From the pics ive seen, it looks like it will be about the same size as an ipod nano, and as tall as 2 of them stacked.

I have seen speaker phone mentioned several times when it comes to the phones specs.

If this phone is thick.. it isn't going to sell as much as people think. The only reason why it did so well over in Europe is because they are all about sliders, and open face phones. I don't see a nonflip ever getting popular here in the States.

It definetly 100% does have a speakerphone. doesnt say in specs online but i have played around with the mp3 player on one in the store a little. think we would lauch an mp3 phone with no speaker phone? c'mon

Just the speaker, the phone has to ring you know. I'm sure the Speaker is good enough to play music and ringtones... just not sure why there is no speakerphone, there isn't even a button for speakerphone.

It uses a new UI, which is totally sweet (no pun intended). I think the main theme is called rock and roll and is red with a circle type UI and you press left/right to rotate the circle to your menu option. The other theme is blue, but Ive only seen 2 pics of random menus under that theme. Rest assured the new UI is SWEET! (pun intended now)

Just got the demo unit in my call center today. The UI is AWSOME!!! like the flash on the 8300 you can change the color of the bars on the top and bottom of the screen, the 2 new UI's are called rock and roll and jazz, they are the same except rock and roll is red and jazz is blue. It uses a wheel for the different topics in the menu. The touch sensitive buttons are really cool, although it takes some getting used to. i didnt really notice a lag that was mentioned although i did not compare the new UI's to the old vzw standard. This phone is HOT!!!!

i agree, now a days, speaker fone is pretty much standard like a fone book being in a cell fone, and especially being that the 8300 has it, which i us at work all the time to listen to music, it will be kind of wierd not to have it.

That's a 3rd party site. I wouldn't trust anything unless it was LG/VZW specific.

Even if their was no speaker phone at launch, Im sure a simple software update could make the supposed speaker on the back operate as a speakerphone as well. Its probably just that easy people.. some of you are getting nutts about the phone not having a speakerphone so you cross it off your list so fast.

SP, are a major feature on a phone these days, I use speaker phone all the time, and I will never get a phone without one again. SO yea, if it does not have one, i'm crossing it off my list to.

i read the enitire 122 page manual, didn't see speakerphone, doubting it will be n there, plus looking at the pictures i don't see a button that would intialize it unless it is one of the directional buttons.

yeah that sucks, but i never used the feature on my 8100 or razr so oh well. it does only have one speaker on the back but if it is as good as the razr's speaker i will be happy enough. My question is more like , where is the flash??? Once again oh well. I am still buying this thing first day when it posts on website regardless.

I know we all use are phones differently, I use the speaker phone all the time, so its a big disappointment for me. I just love how on the 8300 the speaker phone button is conveniently located. It does appear to have a speaker on the back of it. but it looks like the speaker might not be a speaker PHONE. As silly as that sounds.

I'm actually not worried about no speakerphone. My worry is it not having stereo sound. If the pics are correct, it only has one speaker. That would be a HUGE mistake on LG's part and would still mean the LG8300 is the better phone.

It definately reflects that there is no speakerphone, it notates an external accessory is required for speakerphone. I take it that this phone is relying on the fact that it is BT capable that and a BT speaker would be required unless LG is making an attachment accessory. There is only 1 speaker and it not a stereo. Again relying on A2DP stereo BT to be used for stereo listening or the wired headsets. This is more I-pod then phone. So it's ashame LG made such high-end phone without standard features. I hope the 8500 has better BT capability then the 8300 with all the lack of abilities relying on it.

So far, the RAZR has the best sound quality I have yet to experience. Shame it has so many other limitations.

You mentioned that it can be paired with up to 20 BT devices. Since it is not a speak phone itself, can it be paired to an external speaker/microphone for use in a car? Are such after market devices currently available? That would solve the speakerphone issue for me. Thanks for the info.

we sell BT speakers, BT headsets, and also BT car kits. we also have a BT docking station coming soon that will pretty much be the same thing as an I home for the ipod. it will have speakers, charge the device, and also can be hooked up to your laptop/pc for music transfer. we also have BT stereo headsets available.

well the mean thing is reception. but i like to have a camera and video on it since alot of my friends like to send me pics and videos from there phones. I saw the Q and really liked it but i dont want to pay 44 a month for internet.

Also i tried a Q and like after 30 minutes the screen would go black and i couldnt get the phone turned back on. Only way i could was to take out battery and put back in and that got frustrating

reception quality on the chocolate is great as well as the call clarity. either way you go the Q is a great phone for what i need. i also think the chocolate is going to be a great phone, as well as the hottest phone of the summer!!

So im trying the Q, but one questions after i dont use it for 30 minutes or so it goes black and i cant get it to come back on unless i take out the battery. Ive read the manual and cant find anything about how to turn it back on when it goes to sleep.

i didnt think the 8300s UI was slow. the chocolates UI has a bit of a lag, but of course there will be software upgrades in the future.

I'm looking at the 8300 and the Chocolate. Here's where I'm coming from: The Kyocera 2325. Great reception but dying battery life. I'd like both of those, plus two more things: A camera and style. 8300, I've heard, has great reception & battery life. The Chocolate has great style and battery life, hopefully so, as well. (along with reception).

Any sugguestion on the 8300 vs. Chocolate competition? I'm more into sliders since I'm used to a candybar, but how much more happier will be I with the 8300? i.e., does it have that many more "functions" from what I've heard?

You can use the nav with the 8300, it all depends how badly you need a phone the 8300 already has a proven track record.

the 8500 has navigation too. i played with it yesterday at work and was VERY unimpressed. i'm sure it will be a popular phone, but i find that stupid touch sensative "buttons" to be more of a pain than anything. the keypad is way too small and didn't appear to be backlit. The speaker for music wasn't very loud OR clear. I'm holding out to see what the 9900 looks like. just my opinion of course

I'm sure the touch pad is backlit as thats the premise for the advertisement on the verizon website. (the glowing red keys) I'm really anxious to get my hands on one and see for myself!
