Has anyone had success activating a Verizon smartphone/PDA without adding a data plan? I'd like to activate a Treo 600 with Verizon and use it solely for voice.

Technically, it can't be done. However, you can activate it with the pay as you go data plan ($0.0015 per KB) and you can get a national access block added to your account right after activation. A data feature is required (hence the pay as you go) but with the feature you can still access data and may end up with charges because of accidently accessing data, accessing "just for a second" or picture messaging. By adding the block (which will also block text messaging) you can make sure you get no charges and use the phone for voice only. And for any blackberry readers, this can only be done on PDA's. Blackberry MUST have a 24.99 or 44.99 feature.

I had the 6700 and was on Americas Choice family plan and did not have to have a data plan. The rep at the store where I bought it put a block on the phone so that I could not utilize the data feature. I got the phone because of the wi-fi capabilities.
