Sim Cards

Why is Verizon difficult and not let people use those Sim Cards or w/e they are called that you can interchange from most phones from carriers that arent verizon? It would be much more convenient.

It's really not Verizon who chooses that, it's the phone manufactureres. Due to the fact that Verizon runs on CDMA technology, the phones that manufactureres provide to Verizon are not likely to support SIM cards.

SIM cards were always used in connections with TDMA-based technologies. That means that TDMA, iDen, GSM, and UMTS/HSDPA are the technologies that use them.

In addition to the technology issue, there are other more practical reasons.

#1 -> Would do you absolutely no good if the phone is lost or stolen.

#2 -> Sim cards do go bad (check the Cingular forum for all the complaints). You would be the one upset at us because your card died and lost all the numbers.

The reason why they are so "evil" that they won't let you use sim cards is because Verizon is a CDMA market, which means that they are ran differently than the GSM market (who works with sim cards), is like trying to use diesel fuel in a regular gas car. Complete different technology and network, IF you want to use SIM cards I would look into Cingular or TMobile

Whether or not someone wants to use a SIM card should be the least contributing factor in what cellular service they go with. Also, most places can transfer your phonebook, even going from a SIM card to an ESN based phone.
